In fairness the Sven season followed on from the last Pearce season when we didn't even have a plan A!One bad defeat can often undo lots of hard work. Sven just had Plan A. Nothing else.

Great player and did a good job keeping us up that year, the 2010s could have looked completely different had we gone down. However, under Sven it would be unfair to suggest that we didn't make a leap forward in terms of results on the pitch and really remarkable when you consider how he threw that team together at the last minuteI'd argue Pearce made us difficult to beat. Those away wins and Mpenza goals kept us up. As one of the best left backs of his generation, Pearce could organise a defence ok.
Good job it wasn't a Galatasaray shirt!Fenerbahce. Most of the country probably hadn't even heard of them back then.
My best friend and I were sat in the front room listening to Piccadilly Radio for that as young teens I think I predicted 8-0 and he thought 7-1(I guess I should say for the record both of us with a City win!), I blame that day for my loss of innocenceHalifax

Sven never played the fuckin goalie up front....should have been sacked for that alone.....don't get me started about bastard 'Beanie' either.....For the first half of the season, certainly. Once teams worked out how to beat us then the fall from grace was alarming. Had the last five months been matched by the first five months then I'd suggest relegation form. Pearce never lost 8-1 at Middlesbrough and was City manager for longer.
When you look at the fuller picture, Sven's sacking made sense even though it looked ridiculous at the time.
