Most Important City Goals

Paul dickovs is the most important in recent memory, that doesn’t go in and god knows where we’d of ended up, we were on our arse financially and to expect the fan base to put up with another year in limbo, regardless of loyalty, would of been a big ask…. Glory isn’t always about trophies!
I’d put Kevin Horlocks goal alongside that too, Dickov’s would have been meaningless without it, Kev scored his penalty too, Paul missed his

Gabby’s extra time winner against Southampton to get us 100 points.

Absolutely cements us as the best league side in history for me. Nobody is doing that again, not even City.

Fergie’s 90s rags and Wenger’s invincibles would both get battered by Pep’s City side.

It was also a poetic bookend to Sergio’s QPR goal.

Sergio’s goal No1
Vinny No2
Loads more through the ages but in terms of the PL they stand out ..

FA Cup, Yaya against the rags
I could list many many more as coukd we all

Vinny’s v Leicester felt like a league winner didn’t it.

Just knew right then it was written in the stars and we weren’t going to let it slip.

Was an absolute honour to be in the ground that day. What a moment.

For me it has to be Paul Dickovs goal. Without that god knows what would have happened to us.
As much as Augeros was amazing and important, ultimately if we hadn’t had won the league that season we still had a great squad that would have eventually won the league.

Without 99 and going up the ramifications would have been catastrophic. This is only my opinion of course.

An incredible moment no doubt.

But Nicky Weaver deserves as much credit as Dickov in that game for making the save to win us the shootout ;)

Absolutely, if we had lost to Gillingham, City may not have survived, at least not in the form we have known over the years. I believe it's been documented that another year in Div 2 would have been game over.

However as it's over the last 10 years, surely Sergio's 2012 masterpiece.

We had a massive cull after we got relegated in 1998 and the biggest earner was Pollock £3k a week and oldest player 28 Goater. We were told we were in a very good position at the start of the season if we went up or not. Bernstein overplayed the importance after, just as 2 years later he said Royle's job was safe and sacked him within a few days.

Totally agree with this. The thread is about the last 10 years I know, but had Dickov (and Horlock, as someone else has commented)not scored we would have spent another season at least in the 3rd tier, (look at Sunderland now!) It may have taken a few years for the good times to kick in but that goal was undoubtedly the most important goal in our recent history. Even in the short term we had another couple of hugely enjoyable promotion seasons that brought back some long forgotten 'good vibes' (2000/2001 maybe wasn't great as we clearly weren't ready for the top flight yet)
It has been documented many times that the move to the new ground and all that followed would definitely have been in jeopardy were it not for Dickov's 95th minute goal at Wembley.
The first title win in 2012 certainly will very probably never be matched in terms of emotion or drama (both for of us or the Premier League itself) However, I do feel we still would have gone on to have had a similair level of success soon afterwards.
We ofcourse won the Prem again 2 years later, and had we not won it in 2012 I feel we would have won it in 2013 as we would have had 'The bit between our teeth' as we would have not have effectively conceded it to what was a fairly ordinary Rags side(with the exception of Van Persie to be fair).
Blues of a certain age I doubt will ever feel that Dickov's goal will be taken over (I'm avoiding the use of 'bettered' obviously here)in terms of importance.
