Most Important City Goals

1. Dickov v Gillingham -Everything that has happened since the Shiekh took over can be traced back to this moment. Losing to Gillingham would have been catastrophic and there is a slim to none chance of us being where we are now had that goal not been scored.
2. Aguero v QPR - No explanation needed.
3. Yaya v United (FA Cup Semi) - A goal that showed we were becoming a different beast. Bringing in proven winners Mancini the manager and Yaya the player and winning that game gave us the self belief to push on, win the cup and win the league the following year.
4. Yaya v Stoke (Fa Cup Final) - The goal that NEEDED to be scored to end our collective anguish. I think if you polled a lot of City fans at the time and said you can win the FA cup and that's all, alot of supporters would have bitten your arm off. Another example Yaya dragging us to glory (see also: Newcastle away 2012, Crystal Palace away 2014)
5. Kompany v Leicester - Pushed every step of the way by the dippers and looking tired and lacking imagination, Vinny lashes the most extraordinary shot into the absolute top corner of the net to put one hand on the Premier League.

Honorable mentions to Yaya's earlier mentioned goals. Also Sterling against Bournemouth and Southampton (Both vital for Pep's first title, even though we won at a canter, the ability to maintain that winning streak put untold pressure on our rivals. Dzeko against Notts County and QPR, Horlock against Gillingham and Goater against Wigan

Morley v Bradford (88-89).

With the team looking to secure automatic promotion back in to the first division and pretty much running on empty Morley equalised with 5 minutes to go away at Bradford to secure the draw which saw us finish as 2nd Div runners up. Promotion had been in our grasp the week before at home to Bournemouth when we were 3-0 up and ended up finishing the game 3-3 - Typical City.

I honestly believe that we wouldn't have made it through the play off's and I think the way the clubs finance were at the time the club may not have survived another season in Div 2.

It won't make anyone's top 10 (probably not even a top 50, in a lot of cases), but Edin's late equaliser against Notts County in the cup run in 2011. It helped propel us on to that vital first trophy since we were founded a little over 2 years earlier.

Richards with the assist and also defending in the death of that game saved us a very embarrassing exit. Its games like that that get forgotten, we won the replay 5-0, but without that goal, and richards tackle at the end, there would be no semi against the rags, the poznan and then no first Trophy and whos not what that alternate universe would look like.

Ha, the disappointment from Claridge and Tyler is hilarious.

Sterling's late goal v Spurs in the CL semi should have been amongst our most important goals but for the corruption of VAR that night!

Ruled offside but a TV replay ( from only one angle iirc) didn't show any conclusive evidence it was actually offside and the incident wasn't scrutinized post game. The media didn't much mention it either, just swept under the carpet and forgotten about.

But they allowed Llorente's handball goal alter looking at it and I still feel aggrieved we were fuckin' robbed!

I blame that f'kin Beach Ball that was being bounced around the North Stand in the glorious sunshine that day. And the fact that we came out for the 2nd half with the instruction to defend and not cross the half-way line.

It was like the Alamo and that injury time goal by Bournemouth (penalty?) ruined my day.....

Tyler's cat died again I see when we scored, guy must have gone through loads over the years commentating us.

Wasn't that the day Eddie Large did the team talk?. Was it when we were 3:0 up at Half time, or is that just one of those 'urban myths?'.
Bournemouth penalty was in about the 97th minute, Luther Blissett scored I seem to remember.

£3k a week for Jamie seems a lot, maybe it was his reward for 'that' goal?
To be fair to Mr Pollock he did at least seem to try when at City. This is unlike certain players we can all think of who 'played' for City in later years whose surnames both begin with M and are both now 'successful '(??!!) pundits.
I'd be surprised if 3k per week was our highest wage. Premier League wages were 10k per week+ for the average first teamer by 1998 and some of our squad had been signed in Div 1 with a view to getting promoted. Certainly Horlock had plenty of options when he signed in 97 and if he was on 3k his agent failed in a big way. I should think Bishop and Dickov would have been on more than 3k having come from top flight clubs as did Pollock.
