Most influential cars

Wasn't there talk about banning soft-tops in the USA due to safety fears? This would have been late seventies or early eighties and a number of manufacturers scaled back production as a result. Others incorporated a roll-bar into the design which didn't do much for the looks of the cars but got round the problem.
There was indeed in the early 70's, hence why the TR7 was initially built as a hardtop. Nothing came of the legislation but it took until 1980 for the soft top version to be available.
Oddly in it's day the TR7 was probably the best car to have a crash in as it was such a strong shell. It even had door intrusion bars years before any of the swedish manufacturers thought about them.

It's surprising Renault, Citroen or Peugeot didn't lead the way in bumper technology given the Parisian habit of parking by touch.
Ha, that's how the wife used to park, she had to put one set of tyres on the pavement so she knew she was close enough.

And just to be doubly sure of crash safety, triumph cunningly made the tr7 to be so slow it was impossible to injure yourself in the event of an accident. :-)
Just a joke max x
