Most overrated City player ever?

Lock this thread bashing Dunney monster ffs. Has to be "haarland" the Swedish Andy carroll and that ginger in midfield the Dutch Jonjo shevley.

Kinkladze by a mile

I also feel Kompany is a bit overrated. Brilliant for 2010-2014 but became somewhat of a walking red card waiting to happen in the later years.

Saved it with two late end of season runs in 2018 and 2019 and the Leicester goal coming back into the team, but the reality was he was injured for well over half the premier league games in those seasons (30 PL starts in 2 years).

Kompany was a great footballer and an iconic player for us, but not a great defender; outside of Mancini’s well drilled, low block defensive unit his lack of awareness got exposed in a higher line. He was horrific in Europe aswell.

He’s a lot like Gerrard in the sense the armband, the winning goals and the physicality masked a lot of their shared flaws - it’s no coincidence both clubs have gone up a level in the absence of their egos and erratic presence on the pitch.

Think some people don't understand the word overrated.

For them to be overrated, they have to have been considered by many to be a good player.

Nobody thought Bradbury, bridge or managala were good so they can't be overrated.

Agreed you are spot on and that’s why David Silva walks this , not one big goal in 10 years

Darren Huckerby, Forrest Gump in football boots on speed.

If Darren had a brain he would be sensational, sadly he didn't!

May not be good timing this one but here goes, Alf Inga Haaland LOL, talked the talk but did not walk.

Played a big part in our 1st division championship side under Keegan. 20 goals and a couple of hat tricks. Also worked his bollocks off when needed/ like the home game against Millwall when Ali B got sent off early

His character was just what we needed at the time but as the team progressed his limitations as a footballer became clear. He was replaced by a superior footballer in Gareth Barry who in turn was replaced by a superior footballer in Fernandinho. But for years after de Jong's departure fans still used to post on here saying "we never really replaced de Jong" , "what this team needs now is a player like de Jong". Normally from fans of a certain age who above all else want their midfielders to get "stuck in".
I think NDJ is a great shout. An absolute fan favourite, but a player not needed in a top side. He helped us get to that stage, but the fact he had to slide in so much illustrated that his positioning was poor.

Never knew what his supposed strengths were because scoring and creating chances certainly weren't among them. Similar in many ways to Nigel Fucking Clough.
He missed most chances that ever came his way with great aplomb.... (Heath). Clough wasnt great either.

He and Howard seemed to have a very cozy relationship, fucking weird he was constantly picked yet contributed jack shit.
