is depression on the cards for today? fuckin ell man.

that 1st picture says the photographer left the scene after taking the photo and then commited suicide because of depression....why didnt he just help the child?!
If that story is true, then that cnut of a photographer deserved to fucking die.
To be honest, I think the vulture would have had them both.

-- Wed Jun 16, 2010 11:43 am --

Hotel Rwanda is an amazing film.

One of the main reasons we're able to have the world cup in South Africa today was because of the 1995 rugby world cup. Nelson Mandela presenting the trophy to Francois Pienaar is an iconic moment in the history of SA, and geniunely I don't think there's another man who's had such positive impact on a country that Nelson Mandela had. It is because of him that we are watching the football in South Africa today.
A little bit lighter than most of the picutes on here, thought of other ones, just didn't have the heart to go looking for pictures from Bosnia, Serbia..etc.

Surprise to see this one hasn't been put up yet.

Carter eventually shooed the vulture away after taking the photo. The photo is not entirely what it seems as the child's mother was out of shot waiting for food.

However, it was scenes like that and others of death and misery that contributed to his suicide. Hardly surpirsing when you make a living taking photos such as these:

I'm surprised he made it to 33 years old to be honest.

always wish that aussie would have joined in to make the photo more powerful.....yeah it is a great one!!!!

Peter Norman did join in, in his own way - he wore a badge supporting the Olympic Project for Human Rights, in support of Smith and Carlos. He also spoke out against the 'White Australia' policy - which had been abandoned by the time of the Olympics - but resulted in much prejudice against Aboriginal Australians.

As a result, he became distinctly unpopular in Australia and despite running good enough times, wasn't selected for the '72 games.

When he died, Smith and Carlos were pallbearers and spoke at the funeral, and Norman is very well regarded in the US.

There's a decent documentary about Norman called 'Salute', which came out a couple of years ago. Worth watching, though it should be noted that it was made by Norman's nephew. Still pretty even-handed.

That photographer killed himself over guilt, so many people had a go, while the picture won awards, the criticism and attacks were never ending, why take the picture, why didn't he help the child, at the end of the day, what was he supposed to do? He was so wrapped up in guilt by the end of it that he killed himself.
