Most underrated City player ever?

Great defender but utter mercenary, always had the feeling he did not like football but was just very good at it and loved the money.

I'm not sure where this idea of him being a mercenary came from. He signed a five year contract with City, which he saw out being probably our most consistent player over that period. Another club came in for him offering him more money and better prospects of success (this was at the end of Pearce 07!). What's everyone's problem?

I bumped into him in town a couple of times too and he was always really polite when I asked him annoying questions!

Think he just kept himself to himself to an extent. I thought he was fantastic when he joined, but my memories of him in the last couple of seasons he was here was mostly him shaking his head and looking frustrated.

He did have the last laugh winning the FA Cup and I agree he was a very high class CB, he made Dunny look better than he was.

Phillips had a wonderful first season but then his career went off the cliff.

Eh?

He left City and won the FA Cup with Coventry the following year! He then went to Norwich and was part of the side that finished 3rd in the PL. Then went to Forest, won promotion (as player of the year) then qualified for, and played in, Europe by finishing top 3 or 4 the year after.

His spell at City, therefore, was one of his least successful spells!

Big Joe Corrigan, not by City fans but everybody else, he was in an era with the likes of Clements and Shilton so never really got recognised as much as he should, for me …!!
