Mourinho or Mancini

The evidence before my eyes most weeks tells me that we have taken a step backwards since last season. Obviously we may start playing wonderfully well any day now but the reality is that so far we have played pretty poorly relative to the quality of players we have this season. There are so few players performing to anywhere near their potential that it is frightening. Personally I think we have been getting by on the gritty determination of the players, which is fine every now and then, but I look at our team and think that maybe we should actually expect to play well more often than not.

Everyone sees what they want to see I guess.

I don't think we've played as well as last season although the difference isn't as big as some make out. Last year was a pretty high standard to live up to, if we can match our results we'll win the league again IMO.

Won't be easy and if I had to bet my house I'd say it won't happen. It will need improvement not just from the manager who seems to cop the brunt of all criticism but the players that aren't performing to their standards as well.

I think its fair to say there has been a 5%-10% drop off in our performances on average from last season and we totally stuffed up the CL whereas in the previous season we are were a bit unlucky.

On the bright side we do seem to getting back to a higher and more consistent level of performance although losing Sergio may knock us back a bit.

If I had to stick my neck out I don't think we will win the PL this year either...it will be close just not close enough

I still believe we can win the league, purely and simply because I believe we have far and away the best group of players in this country. Clearly they need to play somewhere near their potential to turn it around though.

Plus I don't think many, if any, are saying Mancini is a better...but many are saying they'd rather have Mancini. Mourinho isn't the sort of person we've ever had at City. The guy is an utter wanker.
Do you have any idea of what, say, Stuart Pearce was really like? Because I've heard stories about him. But I also know a couple of people who actually know Mourinho and worked with him. And they adore him. People at Chelsea were in tears when he went.

I also spoke to an old boy at Fulham whose job it was to escort the visiting manager around. He had nothing but praise for Mourinho, saying he was an extremely intelligent man who could talk about many different subjects. But more than that, he sent the man an Xmas card and the next season when Chelsea visited, he remembered everything the guy had told him about his family.

Doesn't sound an utter wanker to me. A fair few managers have a completely different persona in front of the cameras.

Imagine Mancini doing that to Mike Phelan.

Let the thought marinade in your brain.

If it doesn't make you smile you're not a blue ... ;)

Mm...when you put it like that...

Seriously though, don't you find his (Mourinho's) arse-licking of taggart somewhat repulsive?

Interesting as it maybe, I'm not sure how it's relevant to managerial ability.

Not all managers are outgoing people who want to be everyone's friend.

It's my impression that Mancini clashes with players because he is very driven and very motivated

It's enormously important to managerial ability. The best managers have the respect of their players. The best managers build relationships with the players and get the best from them individually through that relationship. It's mancini's biggest failing and the reason why he clashes with so many people.

As costacurta said on live television last week, he's a bit of an arsehole.

Does anyone know if Mancini was at training today. A mate of my sons reckons he was on a flight back from Munich. Any ideas why if true?

You can have respect for a manager / player without liking him.

Do you really know that the players have little respect for Mancini? The results after every bad result suggest that the team spirit in the club is as good as anywhere and that comes from the manager

I don't think you have a leg to stand on but on an on you gol
