You get paid fuck loads for stuff you dig up, we grow shit loads of food too and get loads of money from tourism.

This what I don't understand about Oz and I'm certainly not having a go at any Ozzies or the place itself but I go on what I can see around me as to a countries export success and wealth but I cant see anything Australian. I see German, Jap, French, British, Italian, American, far Eastern etc etc but nothing 'seems' to be exported from Australia yet it imports a hell of a lot so how do you lot make it pay. I know the Chinese have a big influence at the moment but beyond that.......

beside minerals etc we export a lot of dairy, beef, wine, lamb, fish, beer etc

What does the Mrs think about returning back home?.....she originally was from Hyde......

I think you need to give your head a wobble Nims, you have always said you would never even think of coming back, things must have changed a lot in Oz recently.

Don't know about Devon/Cornwall though, it's a bit isolated down there...nice for hols though.

You can't run your life round your kids though, they will be off soon enough anyway......:)

I just read my post of yesterday and it does make me sound miserable, Im not, its fantastic here, Brisbane is a lovely place to live, plus we have the Gold Coast & the Sunshine Coast both with miles of lovely beaches, and we have the mountainous hinterland which is lovely.

The purpose of the thread was to warn people how expensive it has become here and maybe think twice about it

Fair enough then, it's always an option to return in the future, (If you wish to) one thing I have learnt in life is never say never....

There's a fair few Australians over here. It's a case of the grass is always greener, IMO. If Britain wasn't an undesirable country where people couldn't succeed then we wouldn't attract so many immigrants. Hard work is almost always rewarded.
