Moving to Australia

or you could just not move to Sydney....!

We have a much better standard of life here in Melbs than what we ever did in England. It is more expensive but you also get paid ALOT more money so its all relative

Maybe you shouldnt..

Median house price in Sydney announced this week is $914,000 (460,000 quid)

Food is expensive, cars are expensive, 50% of Aussies pay for private health insurance

Other cities are cheaper but still very expensive to buy property

It used to be a great place where everything was cheap 20 years ago, but now I wouldnt bother coming here, everything seems to be a big rip off.

And don't forget the man-eating spiders, snakes, toads, sharks and camels!

yes everywhere, stay away

I am assuming you are taking the piss? This weekend I have been for a walk up the Great Orme in Wales took me 1 hour 15 minutes from my house - there and back in a day and it was great.

Just booked a random 99 pound flight to go to Lisbon for the weekend next month. I would miss the spontaneity of being able to visit new random places in Europe quickly and easily. Not saying Manchester is perfect, it clearly is not especially over the tough winter months but is a handy place to live for so many places. Not saying Australia wouldn't suit many people - I just couldn't do it.

No Im not taking the piss. I know all about mini holidays from the UK, Ive done them, my brother does them, holidays here are very expensive

It used to be fantastic here but its turned to shit

The roads are clogged, EVERYTHING costs a fortune

Id return to somewhere like Cornwall if I could, Im stuck here because of my kids being Aussies

Its a good life, beaches, constant warm sunny weather etc etc but its not somewhere I would recommend, 20 years ago yes

your better off where you are

I can honestly say Australia has never been on my list of places to visit. Forget the spiders, snakes and drop bears. I just couldn't cope with the upspeak.

Me neither. My Aunt, Uncle and 2 cousins are there permanently now. I have visions of my cousins children coming back to visit the UK in about 20 years and inflicting it on me.

Every time I phoned home after about 8 months there my family were saying they liked my new accent, referring to my Australian question intonation?

I don't know how long ago you moved there Nimrod, but I'd say that in the last 15 years UK roads have become clogged, and in the last 10 everything here costs a fortune too. We are hearing a lot about deflation now, but mysteriously never heard a dicky-bird about UK inflation between 2005-2015, which according to the stats was not that much (aprt from fuel), but my basket in tescos was costing a lot more.
When we went to Oz in 2004 I thought that shopping in Coles/Woolworths was like M&S quality for lidl/netto prices by 2008 I thought it was as expensive as the UK but the fresh stuff was better quality. Fucking beer seemed to have shot up as well in those drive through bottle shops. I like the Tazy stuff like boags, but it aint cheap.
