Moyes will win his first trophy before the season starts

Of course the Charity / Community Shield is a trophy, but it's only a minor one.

Any competition where a team has a 50/50 chance of winning it can't be taken that seriously.

It's not a trophy anymore than the Emirates or Audi Cup is.

The fact it goes straight to penalties if it's a draw tells you all you need to know

Yes it is a trophy. To be having a chance to win it you have to have won something

Which Moyes didn't. It will be no more of an achievement for him than beating Wigan in the league (or other substituted relegation candidate). Alas, it will go down in the history books against his name regardless.

it is most definitely a trophy. it is played down as the teams are gearing up for the new campaign but its the league winners v the fa cup holders. defo a trophy.

its like saying the ecl winners v europa winners is not a trophy.

Gollum has appointed Phil Neville and Ryan Giggs as coaches.

It isn't a trophy and it isn't a competitive game in my opinion. The fact you can make six substitutions each kind of tells you that. As others have pointed out, it is a glorified friendly. The UEFA Super CUp is an official trophy as it is a UEFA competition and is played with what I'd say are competitive rules (maximum of 3 substitutions, extra time etc).

But yes, Moyes and all untied fans and the media will claim it to be his first trophy.
