It makes me laugh that non of the united fans realise that Fergie is almost directly responsible for the fact that Glazer owns their club in the first place. Fergie fell out with Magnier and McManus over the stud rights to the Rock of Gibraltar, a horse he was given a share of as gift as they thought he was a good bloke to have around.
Fergie's own greed meant that when the horse was raking in a big fee at stud he thought he was due a slice of the action, he was told where to go and decided to take legal action...until he was told by his legal council they didn't have a leg to stand on and he had to drop it. Unfortunately for Fergie and the rags, Magnier and McManus owned shares in united...who they sold to...good old Uncle Malc.
If Fergie hadn't ruined his friendship with them he probably would have only needed to make a phone call to make sure they didn't sell to Glazer, as it was obvious what he would do to united's finances.
Make him a Lord alright, it was a hell of an achievement to play such a pivotal role in taking united from being a free spending machine to a club that despite its huge incomings (tourist attraction) every year, had to stoop to signing Michael Owen, Obertan and Bebe. Nice one Slur Alex.
