Mr Cook

PMSL it's all going reasonably well on the pitch so the League Of Not Very Intelligent Gentlemen decide to start kicking off with the board members on here! Brilliant.

How long before Khaldoon and the Sheikh are given the BM abuse and stick, now we just need a flimsy reason gleamed from reading a tabloid newspaper or Sky Sports News...

My faith in this place dies a little on a daily basis, I really want to see City do well but in this digital age where the moron on the street can become an instant spastic celebrity online I fucking worry.

Anyway, the real world calls...enjoy your Daily Star and Sky Sports fix people and remember, whatever happens SLAG FUCK OUT OF CITY FOR ANY REASON THE PRESS GIVE YOU, YOU ARE THE PUPPETS SO LET THEM PULL THE STRINGS.

and where did you stand on the Hughes debate? is it not fair game to discuss issues affecting the club and take sides and argue your point? Cook has brought this on himself and we are having a lively debate about it. So don't call us spastics for doing that.

I haven't read all the replies so forgive me if this has been addressed but today's paper says this "Despite the presence of television cameras Cook had been under the impression it was a closed event for him and the supporters."

FFS surely someone in Cook's position should understand that nothing is 'closed' in this day of 24-hour news and video phones, but to assume nothing would get out with a television crew there???

What he said was what any Blue would say, but he needs to understand that working for the club is not the same as supporting it. Mr Cook, please stop trying to endear yourself to us and just get on and do your job. Do it well, do it quietly and you will have our respect. Keep making us look like muppets and you wont. Simples.

Once again you miss, or choose to miss, the point. You can have the ambition without behaving like an arrogant dick. Observe senor mancini.

Be careful calling Pam. You might get blocked for absolutely no reason off her. She falsely accused me of being called Darren, no one likes me, i forever change my username. I'm actually puzzled to what the fuck she is on about? She's more interested in starting Utd topics every 2 minutes so i won't let it bother me.

Thanks! If she starts calling me Darren I'll know I've hit a chord.

Do you want Cook to say that we have no ambitions to be amongst the biggest and the best, after all on account of the fact that we're just lil ol ciddy.

The range of responses available to him are not limited to either "we have no ambitions" or "we are going to be the biggest club in the world"... there are actualy several variations in between those two extremes!

He could have said "We are ambitious to be among the best... but let's get that first trophy on the table before we all get too giddy". Or he could have shown some class and downplayed our ambitions... like a proper City fan would normally do.

I get the strong impression that Cook is bigging up Cook rather than bigging up City.

Spot on The Mighty Quinn, some fans just can't help taking the bait.

Cooke is hugely successful in what he does and I see no reason to think that he won't be with us. Perhaps the one area he is learning and will probably learn fast is not to trust the media - they will look for an angle on anything - and we as blues should always stick together.

Most of the media do not share the ambitions and dreams we have for this football club and people need to remember that.

For what it's worth I fully endorse Cookes approach it takes a brave man to put your kneck on the block like that but I fully believe that Cooke believes he can and will deliver and that is what we need at this football club. Of course there are no guarantees but if you dont have belief that you can do it then in all likelihood you never will.

People have to remember he was talking to a pub full of blues and sharing his vision and belief for this club. I personally thought it was great for that to be broadcast (even if it wasn't intended) as the rags and everyone else know that we mean business and our owners STILL share the ambition that we as fans have for the club.

How the hell did someone with so little knowledge and experience of the football industry get this job? If I remember correctly we were looking for ages and someone turned us down. Can't remember who.

This is the problem. If you're standing up at your company's annual conference and everyones had a few and you've just had a decent year, you get a good response from the secretaries and sales lads if you say "Next year Wernham Hogg will rule the world!!!!!"

Football is not like that. Noone likes a bragger in sport.

If you tell everyone you're going to be the biggest club in the world, even if you end up second biggest you have failed.

I want him out of our club.

Ivan Gazidis, who's now at Arsenal turned us down when he was at the American MSL.

I fully agree about Cook. The bloke is an utter embarrassment every time he opens his mouth in public.

not sure why anyone gets worked up over what Cook says at a meeting of supporters. of course he is going to talk big. that's part of his job. the players the club recruits and the organization they create will ultimately be what drives the results. not whether or not cook runs his trap.

also, did anyone see ferguson try to rub up how city aren't used to big games and that united are and that this will be why united goes on past wednesday. obviously united has a lot of players who have played in big huge games. can't dispute it. but it seems to ring odd to me.

tevez has won everywhere he has played. if anything he might have more experience winning in different settings than anyone on either team. olympics, boca, brazil, libertadores and all the stuff with united. massive experience for his age. toure has won everything you can win in england. adebayor has been in two cl finals. sylvinho has won a lot of stuff. viera has won a lot of stuff. and this is nothing new to the coach either.

not all those guys will be on the field, but the team has guys who have been there and done that. and that matters.

oh cmon. no one likes a bragger? get real.

some like to hate them. and some people love them even more because of that.

if we turned out to be pantomime villains, but were able to point to real success, and values that really amounted to something beyond the pitch (fair treatment of officials, community work, fan relations, developing youth etc)... really who cares that people think we are brash? they've thought that from the moment ADUG arrived, jealousy being a human trait many will continue to think that no matter what we do... so why worry about it. there are values, and then there are priorities. seems to me this is a case of far too much importance being placed upon superficial values.

But underneath the pantomime villain is somebody working very hard to ensure their audience detests everything about them, i doubt very much that City are trying to do that or even accepting somebody on the board doing the same.

I agree with the jealousy line, we have shown that trait in its fullness to the rags for far too many years now and we will in turn get the same back from them. But jealousy is a trait as is humilty and respect, there is nothing superficial about them, they are real and deep within many people and when they are tagged onto real success, then the word 'best' is so much more relevant than when tagged onto the also real trait of arrogance.

the bigger picture is that controversy attracts attention. if his job is to get more people interested in watching us, then being modest and quiet would be a piss poor way to go about it.

dear god, modesty is surely not a core value of this club, historically... for every Joe Mercer, there is a Big Mal, a Franny Lee, a King Kev, even the dread Swales. and this thread shows it is not a value that is overwhelmingly shared by the fans, so I can't see an argument as to why it should be, going forward, beyond the personal sensibilities of some (dunno how many, but it's definitely not all).

so why are people so confident it's part of who we are? why have they identified so strongly in that way with the club? because we've been through some hard times? because United have been very arrogant at times? neither of those reasons hold any water to me. If there are more compelling, informed arguments, sincerely, I would be very interested in them.

Too true - Modesty hasn´t exactly worked for the past 35 years has it? The fact is we DO now have the financial muscle to at least back up our claims and if that´s putting the wind up some of our nearest rivals (and I believe we are seriously getting under the skin of 3 or 4 clubs) then these are the times we live in. If a CEO doesn´t believe in himself who IS going to believe in him? Yes there is a part of me that thinks "oh no shut up you buffoon!" but when i analyse it I realize that´s just a mindset conditioned by decades of failure - do I continue to think like this or do I want something that´s at least refreshing - lord knows I understand as much as anyone the propensity for City to stick the proverbial "foot" in it but I wouldn´t mind for once being able to lighten up about it especially due to ; a) the circumstances of the remark and b) I can see the bigger picture - calls for his resignation are a little draconian I feel

Why does there have to be such a song and dance every time Gary Cook utters a syllable? It's futile in the extreme.
