tell you what, you come on here a little more often and we will carry on posting the times we think you are biased, you can then respond to those posts to quell our fears. i will though have to leave that to other posters though cos i will not be reading the paper, i know your paper is biased. as i say it has been for as long as i can remember and i'm a little older than your good self.

btw.
we dont want bias towards us, we dont want bias from anyone, we just want fair.
i won't hold my breath.

I'm at a bit of a loss here. How do you "know" the paper is biased, when you don't read it? Osmosis, telepathy or are you, in fact, God? Come on de niro, you're not making any sense.

You keep blathering out bland statements but have offered NO evidence. And you have offered no explanation of WHY it would pay us to be biased.

cos it was biased in 1967 and looking at the comments on here for quite some time now it hasn't changed. you can't hide anymore with so many eyes and ears on line. you print bollocks and bluemooners will be on it like a flash.

Dear oh dear oh dear !!

Not post Stuart, posts, many posts. And if it was because you only had one man at the time, then that is the reason you lost me as a poster. The reason you lost me as a viewer has already been discussed, not only by me, but also by a lot of other people on this thread. I guess we're all paranoid.

No, you're not all paranoid. There are plenty of people on the forum who don't think the MEN is biased, and many, many more who don't go on forums at all who also don't think so. I think forums engender this kind of view, as ridiculous lies get posted, and pass into fact without being challenged - that is why I come on here every now and then. I don't mind being criticised, and I don't mind the MEN being criticised, but when people make stuff up to back up their arguments, it pisses me off.
The bottom line, whether you like it or not, is that if you feel the MEN is biased one way or the other, you are wrong, and paranoid, to a greater or lesser extent.
Can you explain to me, as no-one has yet done, why there are so many United fans who think we are biased against United?

that is just an opinion and just because you state it doesn't make it true

you say that it pisses you off when poeple make up things to back up their stories and you do exactly the same

you call people paronoid and lash out name calling I can hold my opinion and in your response to my original post you once again named utd first which just gives the impression that utd are someway more important than City which only backs up what the vast majority of posters on herre have been saying

the MUEN has always been quicker to critise City and seem to fear the rath of the jock pisscan

I hope your bosses read your defence IE we piss off both sides equally

in my opinion not a clever move in any business

ps I stopped advertising in your rag when I felt I had had enough and with all due respect to de niro just because he thinks youv'e been crap for years dont make it so

I know there are lots of potential advertising in your rag who like me now refuse to give you any business so keep telling yourself you are right and I am paranoid and thats the sort of attitude that will lead to your rag going out of business

Speaking of making stuff up to back up their argument, what did I say in the post that you quoted that was made up?

I wasn't talking about you - I have said, I honestly don't know why your posts were not allowed, and without seeing them, I can't give you an answer.

I was referring to the poster who said we had written an article saying half of the team was up for sale, and the one who said we had not reported United's IPO float.
In the past, there have been posts saying I was still an Old Trafford season ticket holder (something I have never been), and many other piles of bullshit.
This is the problem - people like de niro, who don't read the paper, read this tripe and form their opinions on the basis of it. It's like the Islamic fanatics who declared a fatwa on Salman Rushdie for "Satanic Verses", and it turned out none of them had actually read it. It really is idiocy.

Forgive me if you thought I was referring to you with that reply. I wasn't.

Re: MUEN -whats gone wrong

Back in the day when both clubs would play Saturday at 3pm, after the match me and a mate on the 99 bus back to Sale would play the game of guess which team has the headline in The Pink.

I remember in the early 90's, for five consecutive Saturday's, each teams result was the same.
This is the result and which team got the Pink headline
both won - United
both won - United
both drew - United
both drew - United
both lost - City

I got a fiver letter in Pink Postbag the following week, highlighting this discrepancy! United got beat something like 2 or 3-0 at home to Everton and City lost by one goal at QPR and the headline was something like ''City crash in London'' or some other similar heading.

Yeah cheers mate, and thanks for the great deal on that carpet.

No, it's not an opinion - it is fact. I work at the MEN, and know how the sports desk functions, and it doesn't operate on any kind of bias.
You tell me one instance where I have made something up to back up what I have been saying.
The people having a go on here have not come up with ONE bit of evidence of this stuff - they have offered half truths and lies as evidence.
I'm sorry if me using the word "paranoid" offend you, but it is hard to come up with a more appropriate term for people who feel they are being criticised or persecuted, without any basis. Next post, how about offering us some actual evidence to back your argument?
And we fear the wrath of Fergie? You haven't read this thread, have you? Why did we print more criticism of the Glazers, Gill, United and Fergie over the takeover than any other media outlet in the world, thoroughly pissing off all of them? How does that fit with our agenda, exactly.
This is not an opinion, it is FACT, a concept you appear to be struggling to grasp.<br /><br />-- Sun Jul 29, 2012 5:11 pm --<br /><br />

United fans come out with the same kind of stuff, but in reverse, obviously. I'm not saying you, or they, are making it up, I'm sure it happened, but not through any agenda. Have you any more up to date examples of our "bias", as they are far easier to address than something that happened years ago, and which we cannot look at?

Get Brierley back!

Ask Chris about the lengths we go to on he desk to try to ensure parity of coverage between the papers. He was deputy sports editor, and knows that we used to ensure balance as much as possible. The sports editor even had a little black book in his desk in which he would record the column inches devoted to each club, and he made sure it balanced up at the end of each week.
You would get fans of both clubs ringing up moaning that "You do loads more on Utd/City than you do on City/Utd" and he would quote the figures.

As I keep saying, people only see what they want to see, and if it doesn't fit their agenda, they dismiss it from their minds.

Ah the column inches argument.
We've been over this before, I did the same exercise in about '04/05, over a period of 3/4 mths and gave up the exercise and the paper as it was clear that that wasn't the case.

I have no idea if that's still true however.

Re: MUEN -whats gone wrong

Got to say fair play to the bloke for coming on here and getting involved. Sounds pretty sincere to me.

Re: MUEN -whats gone wrong

Has there been any explanation as to why Peter Spencer goes on Talksport pretending to be the voice of football in Manchester and downplays City at every opportunity?

Re: MUEN -whats gone wrong

If you speak to Man Utd fans, they think the MEN is biased against them.

I pick up a copy of the MEN when its free in the City Centre, and I check out it's web-site but I don't regard it half as well as I used to many years ago when it clearly had a much closer relationship with City than they do now

The world is changing and newspapers are struggling to keep themselves at the fore so the loss of relevance of the MEN has got nothing to do with the standard of the journalism or any bias.
