When something like andy mitten is writing fairytales about City in the M.E.N & then taking the piss about what he's doing on his twitter page then something has to be wrong.
Another rag Denise Evans's The "Imfamous Helen Turner" was an horrific headline, she comes across ok in conversation & the article itself was good BUT i don't believe she didn't know what infamous means, very poor even if taking the piss, spelling worse than mine aswell.
NOT a go at Stu by any means, but the M.E.N is getting worse with these other freelances penning stuff about us
Best bet is just read Stu's stuff and ignore the rest.
Etc..............

I agree that was a poor headline on the Helen Turner article, but just bad English rather than any bid to have a go at City.

As for Mitten, he's a good lad and a good, knowledgeable writer. I'm not sure what you refer to as the fairy tales, or him taking the piss

Re: MUEN -whats gone wrong

Stuart, any chance you could dig out your report of the final Maine Road derby? ....looked eveywhere for it but to no avail.

If memory serves me right it was just a bit one-eyed and blinkered....:)

This is how a MEN describes two players in the same article....

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Alex Stepney, who won the league, FA Cup and European Cup,

Average Goalkeeper...

Colin Bell, who won the FA Cup with Manchester City

the finest English footballer of the generation...

which article was this? have you a link?

5. Again, a poster said the MEN had "ignored" Utd's IPO float story when it broke six weeks ago. So what is this?

Stuart, I like the MEN and I like you but the poster you are questioning said that the MEN had completely ignored the fact that the IPO now looks dead in the water due to volatility (as someone who works in this industry I can tell you that translates as "lack of interest").

Nothing in the MEN about this embarrassing development.

Keep up the good work on there and here though and ignore De Niro, he is a lovely man when he isn't wumming on here.

Has there been any explanation as to why Peter Spencer goes on Talksport pretending to be the voice of football in Manchester and downplays City at every opportunity?

Somebody came on and said this once before. I asked him, and I'm asking you now, to go on Talksport's website, where you can listen to clips going back months, search for spencer, and find me the evidence of him downplaying City at every opportunity. I will then give you an answer.

Last time, the person didn't come back to me - let's see if you have the conviction to do it.

Like seeing what they want to see in newspapers, people hear what they want to hear on radio.
For instance, I wrote an article saying City were absolutely brilliant last season, and played some magical football, but next season are targeting CL and PL, so will need to improve. I then detailed the areas where I think they can improve.
This was portrayed in some City quarters as me slaughtering City, saying they weren't good enough. It is Idiotsville stuff, really

I appreciate you responding to this Stu. However, according to Talksport's archive Peter Spencer has only been on three times in 2012 (in fact since August last year) and two of those were this month about the van Persie transfer saga.

Now, unless I'm greatly mistaken, I'm sure I've caught him on Talksport rather more than three times in almost a year despite being only an occasional listener to that station. While I don't accuse him of slagging off City on air, I've often thought that his opinions on things City are at the very least bland and that he's never fought City's corner when some of the presenters have been having a go.

The point is that he's introduced as the sports editor of the MEN so neutrals will naturally assume that he will always be as positive as he can about the club. Unfortunately I can't name dates and times when this has happened, partly because I don't log them and partly because Talksport's archive is surely incomplete.

A serious question to Mr Brennan (and credit to him for coming on here). Are you saying then that all the City fans who have said that the MEN is biased towards the vermin are wrong then? Becuase if one person expresses that opinion, and is said to be wrong, then by definition all posters who said the same thing are wrong as well. Can they be all wrong?

Yes, of course they can be all wrong. They ARE all wrong
Six hundred years ago, just about everyone thought the earth was flat. Surely they weren't all wrong?
You are also ignoring the fact that there are plenty of City fans, on BM and beyond, who DON'T think there is a bias. Or don;t their views count?

As I've stated. Perhaps I'm just being...... Or is it just Journalistic Licence?

The headline.

Powell play: Manchester United beat Manchester City to Nick Powell, says Sir Alex Ferguson

What Sir really said.

“There were already a few interested. As well as Arsenal and Chelsea, we knew City were keeping tabs on him.
(which clubs do as a matter of course)

The aftermath. 442 comments.<a class="postlink" href="http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/sport/football/manchester_united/s/1584409_powell-play-manchester-united-beat-manchester-city-to-nick-powell-says-sir-alex-ferguson" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://menmedia.co.uk/manchesterevening ... x-ferguson</a> Result!

It's been like that all Summer. Sensational headlines just to cause a reaction between both sets of fans.

Stuart - have you answered this one yet? Apologies if you have, couldn't see it.

Yes, I've answered it<br /><br />-- Sun Jul 29, 2012 5:59 pm --<br /><br />

Haven't got it to hand, sorry.

Re: MUEN -whats gone wrong

If todays article in the Sunday Times Business section is accurate, the MUEN will be rather preoccupied with their true love in future months. Apparently the MUFC bond issue from three years ago has a slight problem. They will have to pay bond holders in the region of $250M per year in fours years time. However their investment fund has under performed massively due to the global crisis. They tried to fill the huge hole with a partial flotation on the NY stock exchange now that has flopped due to lack of interest. Not suggesting for one moment they could do a Leeds or a Rangers but the numbers are truly scary. We might find it amusing but the truth is if anything really bad happened to our beloved friends the Premiership would be stuffed. Anyway the red boys at the MUEN might be more concerned with events at OT.

Re: MUEN -whats gone wrong

Why do posters continue to link articles back to the 1960/70/80s and in their opinion that is why they have stopped reading the MEN,due to possible (and I use that word losely) biasness towards the red half ??
Fucking hell, most old people have stopped hating the Germans on a greater scale of things, but some of you are so one eyed about football agenda`s its embarrassing to say the least.
Time to move on and some of you old timers can`t forgive and forget something that was printed some 30 - 45 years ago !!
Unbelieveable Jeff !!

You mean this one:

<a class="postlink" href="http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/sport/football/manchester_united/s/23889_derby_day_united_left_red_faced" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://menmedia.co.uk/manchesterevening ... _red_faced</a>

I must add that my brief was to write a piece from a United viewpoint - myself and Stuart Mathieson took a Red perspectie and Chris bailey and Paul Hince from a Blue viewpoint.

Re: MUEN -whats gone wrong

Question for City fans reading this thread:

What would you like the MEN to cover about City?

I would like the MEN to get a quote from City bosses about their plans for the ground - not the training ground and wider development, but are there any plans to expand the ground.

Would also like to know about which young players are going to be training with the 1st team
