MUEN - what's gone wrong?

The day I logged onto this site was the last day I ever posted, or read anything on the men site. The articles were ridiculously negative towards anything City related, and whenever I tried to respond to a rag supporter that was slagging off City, my post was not shown. I soon became tired of seeing all the arse licking that utd were getting, a polar opposite to the City related articles. It was unfortunate actually, as I had been a poster on there for probably around five years or so. P.S, the negativity actually started just before I left, and was around the same time that a new guy started writing the City articles.

United fans say the exact opposite. As someone who has, in the past, moderated posts on the MEN website, the only reason they used to get pulled is if they use bad language, or were libellous. In my experience, just as many Utd posters were barred as City posters.
The lad who has done 90 per cent of the moderating since the website was set up is, as I have repeatedly said, a City fan, and he is not told what to allow or not to allow over and above what I have said.
Maybe you could go on the MEN website right now (go on, you know you want to), and detail exactly how Utd arses are being licked, and how we are being negative about City?

Sorry Stuart, this is complete garbage. Many times I typed out a lengthy post without being libellous or using bad language. As for the second part, I'm not going to do that mate, I have no idea if their arses are being licked still, like I said, I haven't been on there for around three years. Who knows, maybe the articles are great (I'm sure they know which side their bread is buttered after all), but as far as I'm concerned, it will be too little, too late.

In that case, I can't tell you why your post was pulled - but I CAN tell you it was nothing to do with any pro-United or anti-City agenda.
Again, we would be stupid to drive people away from the website, a a lot of what we do is aimed at bringing in traffic, and getting people involved by commenting on stories.
A lot of posts tended to get pulled for being personally abusive, such as calling Ferguson "Slur Alex" of Baconface. Anything derogatory about someone at City would get the same treatment - and before anyone cites examples where something like that DID appear, that has also happened on both sides, and was down to the fact that we had one man who, at times of high traffic, was trying to moderate hundreds of posts an hour.
That may be a reason your post didn't appear, as sometimes there simply was not time to moderate them. These days they are moderated retrospectively, so it is no longer an issue.

my guess is your gaffer has told you to get on there and ffs get our circulation up, win us friends and that. in other words the tick has tocked and you now need city fans back on board. to be fair you are not alone, sky will be next.

You can guess as much as you want, but what you have said is utter bollocks. No-one has told me to get on here - in fact we get advised not to go on forums, or get into Twitter rows, but I prefer to engage. So you think Sky have an anti-City agenda as well?
It seems your points are guesses and paranoid assumptions, rather than any hard facts.

just as it is mate, just as it is.

Stuart, can you clarify.

Come on Stuart, when did the MEN decide to pitch like for like stories on a daily basis?

I've never seen the 'now unsensord comments section'(you should read the commnets) so busy. Almost everyday the MEN pitches both clubs against each other just to wind the fans up and get them at each others throats.(it's good traffic though)

Another thing. It's obvious stories are hard to come by from City and United, but the amount of rehashed stuff the MEN is printing is a joke. I can just see you lot clicking onto Newsnow every morning for your next exclusive. No seriously. If you don't believe me just read the comments page. It's a pisstake matey.

I'm sorry to say this, but the MEN has gone downhill over the years. But I appreciate that times have changed in the media and the MEN is now......(fill in as appropriate)

And.

As I've stated. Perhaps I'm just being...... Or is it just Journalistic Licence?

The headline.

Powell play: Manchester United beat Manchester City to Nick Powell, says Sir Alex Ferguson

What Sir really said.

“There were already a few interested. As well as Arsenal and Chelsea, we knew City were keeping tabs on him.
(which clubs do as a matter of course)

The aftermath. 442 comments.http://menmedia.co.uk/manchesterevening ... x-ferguson Result!

It's been like that all Summer. Sensational headlines just to cause a reaction between both sets of fans.

That doesn't even qualify as a guess or an assumption. I wouldn't want you representing me in court!
"To sum up my defence of my client, I just want to say it is as it is, your honour"

I'm still waiting for proof of this bias, or for a good reason as to why we should have it. Some people appear to have made up their minds, without any real basis, and just won't budge from their position

Stuart - slightly off subject. Chris Brierley is a close friend of mine despite him being a red. Do you still keep in touch with him? I know he is freelancing now.

Not post Stuart, posts, many posts. And if it was because you only had one man at the time, then that is the reason you lost me as a poster. The reason you lost me as a viewer has already been discussed, not only by me, but also by a lot of other people on this thread. I guess we're all paranoid.

I can't clarify that, because I haven't got a clue what it means! The problem at all newspapers now is that it is not an instant medium. If I pick up a story tomorrow morning, it can't appear in the paper until Tuesday morning, due to the nature of the medium, so it always looks like we are behind with the news, as by the time it comes out, it is generally all over the place.
City also want to keep most of the stuff for their own website these days, so or access is not as good as it used to be.
We still get quotes from Mancini and players that no-one else gets, but they get copied, and re-copied so often that the origin often gets obscured.

Hardly a sensational headline, but a very simple reason behind it. If you get "Manchester United" and "Manchester City" in a headline, it attracts traffic from both sets of fans. I accept that it is stretching it a little to say United got him ahead of City, but it is hardly anti-City or pro-United. As I said earlier, if City had signed him, and Utd had been "keeping tabs" the headline would have simply been the other way round.

-- Sun Jul 29, 2012 4:17 pm --

No, I'm not in touch with Chris, but he is a very good journalist - and he interviewed me when I got the MEN job, so he is also an excellent judge of character!
