I've even heard some poor demented soul utter the word 'breadcake'! Had I ventured down Moston Lane to Ward's bakers and asked for a 'breadcake' or a barm, for that matter, I would have been sectioned, certified and probably arrested by CoMP.

It’s a muffin and a oven bottom one at that , it has to be as flat as a witches tit and if possible a little bit burnt and a small coating of flour on the top . Must admit though they are getting harder to find these day’s.

Down here in kent they dont even know what an eccles cake are let alone a barm or muffin ! An eccles cake in kent is about 5 to 6inches in diameter flat , with dried up currants and loads of sugar on top......yuk.
