The 'madness' at the Octoberfest (Bierfest) on weekdays starts not before late afternoon
Before that it's more or less a normal big beertent with normal folk music.
When the party music starts, the atmosphere in the beertents is completely different!

The Hobfrahaus is well worth a visit,it's just off the Marienplatz.

You can feel the history in the place and it's an amazing building but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice.

Nice place inside,really enjoyed our visit there.

I'd love to come over for that one but unfortunately it's at absolutely the wrong time for me (7th Dec).
I'm already going over to visit the family for Christmas 2 weeks later and twice in one month would be too expensive.

You won't meet many locals in there. Also it's expensive, the beer by Munich standards is average and they allow no football colours, home or away team.

Sorry, but the first 2 parts are not really true!
I like to go into the Hofbräuhaus! I like the international atmosphere and I'm not the only local there.

It's THE hotspot for tourists in Munich. And I know other places in other cities who take tourists to the cleaner's. You can't say that at the Hofbräuhaus!
It's not cheap (this year the price for 1l beer unfortunately increased by ca. 0.5 EUR to 7.3 EUR; downtown you should be happy to find 0.5l beer for less than 3 EUR), but it's fair for such a hotspot.

Jumping ahead a bit Bayern's website is now stating "Ticket allocation for Manchester City away heavily overbooked, no further applications will be considered.".

Everything else would have been a miracle... So what? ;-)

A - I know it is but when in Munich I prefer drinking with the locals to the Japanese and the Yanks. I just find the HB to be cartoon Bavaria rather than real Bavaria, I'd love to have seen it in the 30's though.
Plus I don't find HB beer to be too good by Munich standards.

B - So nothing, I was just mentioning it is all.

And just to whet City fans appetites this years Wies'n (Oktoberfest) opens in 2 hours ten minutes and counting (the first day always begins at 12 o'clock)....

Hofbräuhaus official policy, unless they've changed it. They usually have doormen on duty, they don't let anyone in football colours in, including home fans.

No, most places you'll be fine in colours as long as you are just having a few beers. Just the big bierkellers often don't allow colours.

No problems wearing colors at all in 99.99% of Munich bars but BB is correct that you will probably not get let into the Höfbrauhaus. I expect that they will have extra security at a lot of places though as people go nuts during the Oktoberfest.
