PG had some average stuff on sides 3/4 for me, nowhere near the standard of sides 1&2.I prefer 3....or Physical Graffitti

XTC have grown throughout their album career so I'd start with their first album and work through chronologically. That way you'll appreciate their genius more. Failing that, I'd try English Settlement or Oranges and Lemons first but, be warned, they are very different sounding records. Hope you enjoy - I've been a fan since about 1978!XTC are a band that have always passed me by, but what ive heard, i like....would that be a good album to start with?
great album and a great tour.First time I heard of them was at a record store in Berkeley, CA in 1981, as they were playing "What's This For?" Fell in love with that album and sound.
If you love listening to full albums, you need to get on the album review club thread.I love listening to full albums as I think they tell a story. However, there are so many albums out there that have 2-3 good tunes on and the rest is utter shite, so I thought it would be great to make a thread for people looking to listen to an album of bands that they do not know too well but the album from start to finish is pure brilliance. Please state the band/group and album along with genre and a description if you like. The reason for stating genre is that long time bands can create great albums but have completely changed genre. Please don't pollute the thread with negative comments about bands. The underlying rule is the album has to be pure brilliance and you never have the feeling to skip a tune So for me off the top of my head....
Megadeth - Rust in Peace (Thrash Metal) - This is the pinnacle of guitar riffage for me coinciding with Marty Friedman's crazy solo brilliance. After track two finishes you need a big breath and are on a new ride.
Muse - Origin of Symmetry (Alternative Rock) - This album is brilliant from start to finish. So many great tunes and they are all slightly different in genre which makes it a good listen.
Dream Theater - Train of Thought (Progressive Metal) - Starts with the "Pop" song of the album and then goes into a complete masterclass of progressive metal. The penultimate track is Stream of Consciousness and I challenge anybody to find a better instrumental anywhere.
One of many artists I never saw living in the Bay Area for two decades but there were also quite a few I did manage to catch in concert. I was never a huge fan of new wave, but I did fall in love with the "Doom and Gloom" subgenre acts. Killing Joke would have been a great show, no doubt.great album and a great tour.
the fire dances tour of 1983 was my favourite,
but the what's this for? tour was really good.
we did every date of it in april 1981,
except when man city played ipswich away (we lost 1-0) and the gig was in middlesborough.
we knew the band well and i distinctly remember when they were heading to the usa later in the year they played a few dates in california so it's a shame you didn't get to see them.
Completely agree and that is the point of the thread. I have found two albums already that I like from reading the posts. What is your list? There are very few albums I can listen to start to finish in one go. Can count them on one hand. I watch with interest what others say.
