Must see documentaries..

Am I Racist?

Funny but has a serious message about America's (and it seems, a lot of the UK) obsession with keeping race front and centre in the public consciousness. Absurd, sad, and laugh out loud in equal measure.
 
"The Remarkable Life of Ibelin"

On netflix. The blurb sounded interesting so I gave it a go but I was not expecting what came.

It's about a boy who was born with a degenerative muscle condition. His family watched him deteriorate over time, with gaming his only real outlet.

When he eventually died, they felt such sorrow at the fact he had never been able to love, make friends or positively impact society. But then the gaming world reached out and they realised they couldn't have been more wrong.

It's incredibly produced, as they were able to recreate the interactions he had through the game. And the people behind the other characters also talk about his impact.

Incredibly moving.

On my watch list, I’m addicted to warcraft play it nearly every day, even today I flew into the monument they’ve put in game for him, they do lots of these things in game, there’s tributes to many different people within the game Robin Williams is but one.

I'm not a gamer or even aware of that game to be honest. I didn't read the blurb very thoroughly - just saw it being about a gamer and had assumed he'd taken his life after being bullied in the game or something like that. Couldn't have been more wrong. It's staggering the impact he had to be honest and how that game was helping people escape their realities. The way they recreate the conversations using the game is outstanding as well.

Very moving, and I did shed a tear at the end.

Goes to show that everyone has potential in life.

Just watched it, very moving. There's a lot of bad press about the online world but this just show the good it can do as well. It gave this poor man a life, love and friendship he would have never had.

Love true crime, will give this a watch.....my only issue with such programs (and books) is that the people making/writing them, have usually convinced themselves of a 'theory or opinion' so everything is edited/used to back it up. There are 2/3 'suspects' that different people have decided without doubt was Jack the Ripper, the last one (some American woman) was embarrassing....but she was on TV 100% convinced she had solved it.

Just watched this, outstanding men, such bravery, so much respect. Tears running down my face on train on way from cushy office job thinking I'd a crap day.

Crazy story but Poor documentary. Why did the filmmakers not investigate any of the evidence themselves? We had three whole episodes of he said she said… I wanted them to go and talk to the UN guy, try and find those bodyguards and do any sort of investigation themselves but no.

Just watched this. Thought it would be the usual retread of story I know fairly well.

Documentary turned out to be a sad, at times funny but ultimately quite a moving story.

I watched it, a really good documentary, but it left some deep, troublesome questions about the army in the context of the Russian aggression and ongoing war in Ukraine. To be blunt, I am not sure how would our troops do, or any western troops for that matter, in the war of that intensity where the enemy has much more than a few rifles, RPGs and IEDs.
BBC would probably have enough material to make documentaries for 100 years after a month of hell in Avdivka pocket or Pokrovsk direction. That might be the reason we don't see footage on our news channels, it is much easier seeing pulveration of Gaza, still somehow distant. Still excellent documentary that bring on brutal honesty what any war can do to a man/woman.
