There's a large difference between Mancini wanting players to add to his squad, and Pellegrini buying players to replace outgoing players. Navas replaced Sinclair, Dinho Barry, Jovetic Tevez, and Negredo Balo.

This is why continually saying Pellegrini has spent 100 million to add to the squad is simply spin. He spent 100 million to replace 4 players who themselves cost around 100 million.

Garcia replaced de Jong , Sinclair replaced Johnson, nasty replaced savic
Balo went when Mancini was in charge.
Barry is on loan.
Not really sure the point youre making??

I was making reference to the earlier post in which Hazard, Van Perise, and Thiago Silva were mentioned. Those players would've added to an already top heavy wage bill because Mancini wasn't prepared to sell Nasri, Balo, or Lescott. He wanted the players on top of what he had.

I take your point about Sinclair, Nasty, and Garcia - but I'm not arguing that Mancini spent a lot or a little that summer. He clearly had money to spend - the fact he could only identify the players we signed as being within the budget he was given is a shame as Txiki showed last summer you can buy very good players and not have pay ridiculous transfer fees or insane wages.

Ok , point taken, still not entirely in agreement with you, i think what we did equates to false economy, buying players for less money, paying them a lesser wage BUT they are obviously not going to improve us, rarely play etc..., paying them a lesser wage but very little in the way of return.

Possibly the difference between winning things and not - missing out on revenue when we might well have retained the title and won the FA cup and who knows in the champs league if we could have got out of our group.

Add real quality every year and we would only have to add maybe 2 in the summer and a cheapie with potential.
We would always be able to move 1 or 2 out that have been replaced and because we have real quality in our squad these players we off load so to speak wouldnt be cheap so we would recuperate money's back into the club.

Anyway , i suppose thats what makes football, different opinions- we beg to differ but we all love our club iv no doubt .

Happy Easter- the sun has got his hat on !

Just a quick point but Hazard, RVP etc are not the ideal signings that some point out.

RVP will be 31 next season and played rarely this season. I'm glad we didn't buy him. Hazard is brilliant one week, anonymous the next. I'm not sure about him because he's so inconsistent.

If we had bought Van Persie last season and they hadn't we would have won the league, no doubt about it in my mind. For that alone it would have been worth the money.

Hazard is more consistent than that.

Probably agree about rvp but most times when iv watched hazard hes been pretty good- better than navas ??
I know he's on the left but we only really play with one specialised winger as i would call it - nasri /silva accomadates the left .

they won't. pellers is just doing what txiki and soriano want. he is a nice guy. he doesnt upset the players. mancini wanted out and out control and will clash with the new set up.

The Barca boys wanted out and out control and they got it. Therefore they have to take responsibility for this season also. We should have bought quality players after winning the title to strengthen and improve the squad regardless of if Mancini was staying or going. They didn't. Those chose to play games instead and we ended up with a bunch of less than mediocre players right at the death of the window instead.
They put their own ambitions and desires in front of those of the club by doing so.
You reap what you sow...
That's all very good but Ferran joined towards the end of August and Txiki in the October.
Let's not let the truth get in the way of a good story eh :)

That's a little nieve. They "joined" the club well before they were appointed. Around February I believe.

to be honest it doesn't matter in my eyes if we finish 2nd 3rd or 4th. 1st is the one we wanted and in the words of ricky bobby. " if you're 2nd you're last.
Fourth would disrupt pre-season and give everyone an excuse for why we don't win the league next season as well.

If we don't win the title we HAVE TO finish in the top 3.

£200? Win our last six games?

we won it on goal difference and mancini made it clear that summer we would not win the league again or progress unless they invest again. otherwise whoever had the shirt would just keep the shirt. no pressure on them win lose or draw cos they get picked each week anyway

you buy when you are the top to stay at the top. we didnt do it. no surprise we were caught up and overtook.

we ended up 2nd. that is what he said would happen if they didnt spend again.
