My final Morrissey post. Ever.

I had the chance of a ticket last night but turned it down. My missus took my 15 year old instead. She said his beautiful singing made her cry, and the lad gave her a kiss to thank her at the end, which must be worth the ticket price alone.
So it cant all be bad.
I saw them 3 times in the 80s and I dont want to sully those memories by seeing what hes become now.

On another note I briefly met Mike Joyce on Friday night, and he was a top bloke. My son now has his autograph.

Though he was brilliant last night. Highlights for me were 'Please, please, please...' and 'Last night I dreamt..' which were just beautiful.

Quote of the evening "Congratulations on surviving the moronic diamond jubilee celebrations"

This shirt was on sale at tonight's gig at the MEN Arena.
That's it for me, burning all his records....

He's always been a weird Stretford red bastard.

That gig last night was absolute gash.

Can't believe how shit it was.

Yeah, I stopped going to his gigs after the Apollo in 2009. The set lists he chooses have become particularly disappointing in recent years. I wouldn't expect a greatest hits style list but for someone who has such an incredible back catalogue to choose from, he seems to pick some of his very weakest songs. Also I think his band is really poor and has been for a while. They fucking butcher The Smiths' stuff imo.

Yep, I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times when The Smiths were at their peak and he was always an incredibly friendly and genuinely down to earth bloke. Him and Marr were always both very lovely.

Went to see Morrissey for the first time last night (Big-Up to 1-Barry-Conlon for the comps!) with the missus. I've got a few Smiths and Morrissey albums, but I can't claim to be such a fan of Morrissey, his stuff tends to go in one ear and out the other for me.

Surprised to see the place half-full when he came on and it was still 20 miunutes later before it filled up.

I personally thought The Smiths stuff was excellent, and his ballads were really good. But most of the other stuff felt like fillers for me. Near the end, another one of his songs came on and I said to the missus "Hasn't he already sang that one about 4 times previously!"

He's still got a great voice. A bit too "stadium rock" for me at times. I was surprised at how much of a stadium performer he is... I always assumed a greater level of intimacy with his performamces.

Best of the night? Meat is Murder was riveting. How Soon is Now was brilliant. And Let Me Get What I want was spine tingling.

But overall a touch flabby at times. I wanted him to do Hector and the fucker didn't comply!

But a good night out. Even if the Market Restaurant was a rip-off in terms of price for what they did! But that's for another thread!

I'm afraid that I have never liked either Morrissey or The Smurfs and this merely confirms my opinion of him.

I couldn't care less about who he supports or what he says or does or believes in, just listen to the music and enjoy! I was in my early teens when they first came out and wasn't my kind of music at all, thought it was depressing as fuck and only the weird kids at school liked them! I was wrong, The Smiths had everything, well written songs, fantastic music/musicians and a frontman that had such a gift as a performer. They never wanted the cool kids to like them, just the misfits and strays (and people that appreciated music)! The Smiths music went from sad, happy, funny, quirky songs or just letting people know that it was ok to be different! Get a couple of albums or even just the Greatest hits and LISTEN!

The whole point is that I have listened to the music and dislike it intensely. I have tried to like it. Maybe having to put up with Morrisseys interminable letters to the NME when I used to buy it every week has something to do with it. Most people grow out of that teenage phase of thinking they are alienated and that the whole world revolves around them and wants to lap up their fifth rate embarrassing attempts at poetry - Morrissey hasn't. Sorry, must go, life can't get any better, it's just started raining at the beach volleyball. Can the costumes shrink any further?

I just love the haters on here. The mere sight of a Morrissey thread has them crawling all over it repeating the same things they said in the last thread!

Keep it up boys ;)

Can't wait for October when I get to see him twice in 2 days, maybe a couple of other gigs too :)

I wouldn't class myself as a hater - except obviously for the rags and the French, and don't think I have ever posted in a Morrissey thread before, but when someone whose music I don't like and who I view as a rather unlikeable personality starts issuing supposedly hagiographic images of himself as a scum legend then my hackles rise. Just as it would if Ryan Giggs set up as a marriage guidance counsellor.
