My new dog

A work mate of mine experienced the same a couple about a year back at dog trust over here.
Because he and the live in girlfriend both worked they wouldn’t give him a dog. He was an experienced dog owner having had a Lab always growing up and he lived in the country with loads of space outdoors and could house a permanent kennel.
He was a real dog lover and he and his father had always had gun dogs.
He would have given a dog a great home but rules are rules I suppose.

Seen it many times, young families with small kids mithering for a dog or puppy. Have a fenced in yard, someone maybe home all day but with no experience or patience to train it are taking it back within months when its chewed the kids toys or keeps pissing on the floor.

Experience with dogs far outweighs having the exact set up and this for me is were a lot of homes/trusts let rules get in the way of dogs being re-homed.

To be fair to Dogs Trust, who are a good charity, they and others no doubt feel obliged to play safe in this litigious age. If they miss any warning signs and the dog then bit a child or attacked another dog, they could be in trouble. Not to mention feeling terrible about it. Plus a dog that’s returned after being rehomed for a few weeks, will be more fcuked up than before.

I know it’s frustrating but there is a logic. When I lost my last lurcher I searched in vain for a rescue lurcher or whippet that was cleared for other dogs and kids. I ended up buying a dog instead.

No. I’m not criticising Dog Trust. They are a great organisation, which I subscribe to. They have to be careful and have the dog’s welfare first and foremost in their minds.
As I said. Rules is rules. They’re there for a reason, I’m sure.

There is a logic, yes, but 31 out of 32 dogs unsuited to being with another dog is ridiculous, in my view. I understand the need for a secure garden and for the dogs not to be left alone for many hours a day, of course.

Almost a year old, I have a mixed breed of Mexican street dogs and she is a beauty, with an amazing temperament. Sent off a dna test to nail down the genetics but no news yet.
Let us know the results mate, bet she throws up some proper left field ones, be surprised if she doesn't have some Anatolian Shepherd and Golden Retriever in her.

I tend to agree it took us ages to find a rescue Beagle mate for our other Beagle,
as we were constantly told by Dogs Trust the Beagles they had couldn’t go to a home with other dogs, which I found strange as Beagles are a pack dog.
