Come on-we're better than this.
He was warned for it.
I'm disheartened when I see 'new fans' treated in this way.
My love for City comes from the fact that even though I was from a Red area and all my mates were Reds, City fans still took me in as part of the family, with random acts of kindness, generosity and respect. Nobody ever questioned my commitment, always gave me advice on handling the bastards I called friends, and silly things like teaching me songs when I couldn't get the words right because I couldn't hear from outside on matchday.
This attitude is what makes us such a great club, and why we are a breach apart from the rags. The rags look at each other and divide them into categories - Mancs, Cockneys, pre '92s, pre-00's, etc, etc. We shouldn't have any of that bullshit, we should attempt to bring new members into the City family by teaching them what it means to be a City fan. This way, our club grows, but our soul is unchanged.
Mancio4Ever, one of the things that you need to understand about City fans, is that our outlook on life is different to most. The Typical City tag isn't for nothing, it's because we've had years of heartbreak. This has taught us two things:
1. Always look at the negatives of something. Purely because the moment someone dares to mention a positive, it is sure to disappear.
2. Always have a sense of humour about yourselves. I can't remember any other team ever getting beaten 4-0 at home in the first twenty minutes of a game, then singing "It's like watching Brazil" because we made a pass that connected.
We do base ourselves in the reality as you suggest. The reality is that we have won nothing for 34 years, and are 5th in the league. We'll start celebrating once we have something to celebrate. We aren't Liverpool or Milano, we don't constantly talk about how great we were 10 years ago. We live in the here and now, this is what we have being taught to do over generations. Only 10 years ago, I wouldn't think about where City were going to be next season, because I wasn't even sure if City would exist at that point, and I didn't want to worry about it.
First of all,
thanks to Damocles for having spent so much of Your time in showing everybody why You are a wise person even before than a gentleman.
Before start posting hereon, I read as much as possible on various Blues' forums, then I choosed this because it seems me the most balanced and aimed: as a result, please allow me to use some of my selfish attitude, by saying that
I went already aware of all the facts U eloquently explained me - that is the very great part of my choice in becoming a City fan after being just a longlasting English football lover without feeling the passion to support any team.
My forever lasting love to the City's manager is the reason why I approached my interests to City, not why I am now the last supporter of MCFC. As some of You I use to criticise RM any time I feel (perhaps arrogantly) he makes mistakes (like the huge one he made at Goodison by leaving the side, in such a rough feud, without a tall & weighted first striker upon RSC injury). After the last three games I even started to questioning myself if RM disability to handle language might affect his task to turn some midfield children into brave men (that is only possible by face to face speeches).
Second I am urged to swear that I never intended a second in my life to be a lecturer to anybody than my nephew or my firm's associated and, surely, I never been in the mood to patronize any human being in my life, whether not for strictly professional purposes.
Third, while I am a foreigner, I took the fortune to attend part of my qualification (both as student and as a worker) in UK, having being offered to largely benefit from british culture and traditions. Particularly I am compelled to myself to make clear that humor has a great part in my soul even if I will forever feel myself to be an ignorant apprentice any time I see the genious of Monty Python (just for an example).
There is only one point I would disagree with You, Dear Damocles, as a pupil might be with a scholar: ok decades of disruptive unfilled promises, ok frustration etc,. but Manchester is not a small Cornwall village, is one of the most important City in UK, thus in Europe. This means opportunity to get easy access, even when not direct practice, to knowlege.
Please, just compare how Real Madrid environment (or Barca, or Inter or Bayern) behave, even in periods of long lasting disgrace (Inter took 30 years to bounce back to usual glory and still waiting for european success, RM had 20 years of anonymity after the 60s glory): then apply the comparison to:
the various mr. Cook's topics (have anybody read his CV? It only means one thing: delivering success.)
the variuos topics about Robinho being a "world class" football player!
the various topics moaning about the return of MH after any poor performance
why nobody's minding about that the manager, instead of rushing to sign defenders as widely moaned, just because joleaon and wayne were temporarly out, desperately tried to sign midfielders? Is it real, at any latitude, that games are winned or lost at midfield and the midfield performace hugely influence the back & fwd output? Is it perhaps because we currently have only midfielders that either are only play-breakers (nigel and vince) or lacks of character (ireland and barry)? Why, in the most fast played football in the world our midfield circulate the ball as slow as the italian sides made at the "catenaccio" ages (and without having the skill of rivera or suarez)?
If I had contributed any little to rise thoughts about how an ambitious environment must behave to enhance itself, I scored, being anyone free to think the worst conspiracy is moving myself.
I apologize once again for all headaches driven by my poor handling of english languages, that is not due to the use of translator but by that my family engagements had forced me to choices that do not allow me to practice it as once I enjoied.
