My step dad is Roger Palmer!

just try looking in ryans bar in sale. thats where he will be lol.
Jeez, Fraggle Rock.

You can literally pick anything up in the car park outside RB. It's like a midnight car boot.

Went in there for a few scoops after we beat Villa to win the league. The landlady was a Millwall fan, hard as nails. She had a soft spot for City and hated the rags. The shots were on the house although to this day, I have no clue what the fuck was in them.

Top bloke Roger, always stopped for a chat outside Spoons pre-match, on his way to the bookies.

i know about his exploits at oldham but can anyone on here remember when he played for city and do you have any stories to tell,i m just interested in how he was thought of as a city player. the only thing i have from his city days is an old programme from his debut at city.
Didn’t his dad (your grandfather) work at Tenmat (Turner asbestos) trafford park?

He wasn't the fastest player in the world, but he was a pretty useful player to have around ..... accordin to Wiki he scored 9 goals in 31 city appearances .... he was the type of player who would often quietly ghost' into position to score before the opposition even knew he was there!

A bit like Martin Peters used to be ! (Who the f'ks that I hear you cry, lol! )

Palmer also scored 141 goals in 461 Oldham appearances too, and proved to be a really good signing for them.

Is that Steve Daley with his arms raised?

Lol, at first i thought it might be Adrian Heath ! ... i think Daley was a bit taller, and a bit more expensive, but I really didnt have a clue who it was at first. I now see its Sugrue from 'Screamers' post above, but without this photo, there's no chance i could remember what he even looked like ..... and yet, 45 years ago, i was in uniteds main stand at that derby game and remember Palmers 88th minute goal like it was yesterday!

Looks like Sugrue came on as a sub .... he was a Coventry born lad, who we got from Nuneaton Borough .... apparently he got seven years in the nick in 2018 for fraud!

Would have been my first Derby game. Had a ticket but didn’t make it.
Travelling on the Leicester & Rugby supporters club coach and north of Sandbach there was an accident. Traffic at a stand still for hours. Just before kick off we limped into Sandbach services and listened to Radio 2 who had the second half commentary.
During the first half another coach pulls up next to us and it’s full of the Devon rags and insults were traded through the windows. One rag waving an axe at us. With the rags winning we were being goaded more and more as the clock ran down and we were becoming more silent sat in our seats, drinking what little beer we had left - until the commentators voice was raised slightly by City being on the attack and Jolly Roger slots the ball home.
Our bus erupts as 50 Blues all on the left side of the vehicle cheering like mad, 50 pairs of two fingers sticking up at the Devon rags, who are now the silent ones, looking at us with plenty of “fuck off’s” shouted back in our direction……
The whistle went and our bus erupts again to more abuse from both vehicles. The traffic by now was moving and off we went north to the Sandbach junction, where we come off and headed south down the M6. The Devon twats were with us the whole way until they split off and went down the M5, the insults and finger gestures continuing until that point.

That was my first derby at the dump

Lol, at least you picked a memorable one with Palmer scoring, ive never forgotten it ...... my first derby there was back in the early 70s, we won 4-1 , and i was stood in the Stretford End .... Franny Lee scored three .. but Mike Doyle headed the other goal in off the post right in front of me, and boy, did he just love it!

Of coutse, the rags, never ones to be economical with the truth, would firmly have you believe that NO City fans, or any visiting fans, ever went anywhere near Old Trafford in those days, far too scared they reckoned ..... but i wonder if they'd still believe that if they heard the City fans in this video, lol !
