My Stroke Journey

Went round to my mothers 11am yesterday. Found her on the floor unconscious. She must have been there since I left the night before at 8pm. 2 weeks ago she was declared blind so I was visiting her a few times a day.
The ambulance arrived within 15 minutes and I spent most of yesterday in the hospital. They have confirmed that she has a bleed on the brain. Today they have told us we can have open visiting times which doesn't sound good. The neurologist wouldn't operate due to her age and fitness.

So sorry for you mate, I don't know what to say other than hopefully she isn't suffering too much and you accept you have done everything you can for her because you really do sound like a kind Son.

Have now had work onto me asking if I will be back in tomorrow or face possible disciplinary action. Am due to see the Dr 11am this morning.
Absolute cunts, some people. There's more important things than work. Save every message and forward every email to your personal email address. It's nice to have a written record of how someone has behaved in situations like this.

Firstly, thoughts are with you and your mum. I hope you get positive news today.

That there from your employer is a fucking disgrace. I mean, are they serious with that there? Exactly what you don’t need right now.

Thanks for the kind words. However, mam passed away last night. What a nightmare yesterday. At 11am I had a meeting with her Dr who told me she was on an "upward trajectory ". This despite getting a call at 6am from the ward sister to come in ASAP. The Dr gave us 2 options. 1. To continue with the medication and review situation in 2 days. 2. Turn off the medication and she may survive still, but probably not.
I went for option 2 but he then said he would continue as we were for 48 hours.

Then at midday a palliative care Dr came to see me. He advised that if mum survived she would more than likely be in a coma until she passed. I told him that I had wanted the medication to be stopped but 1st Dr wouldn't accept this. Off he went to speak to his colleague. He came back and said that the 1st Dr had been told to respect the wishes of the family.

Shortly after the nurse came in and switched everything off. My mum only lasted a couple of hours before passing away. Probably the worst day of my life.

Condolences to you mate. You did what you thought was best which is always the right thing to do.

My sincere condolences Richard. Losing your mum is bloody hard. Thoughts are with you. All the best.

So sorry to hear this mate, as others have said it's hard to lose your mam and there's no easy way to handle it. Sorry I missed this message yesterday because I would have replied then.
