Nadim Zahawi

My **** of an MP. Absolute wankstain.
Did he hide it and lie about it though? If he did I don’t see there being any plausible denial. I do agree if it’s not clear cut HMRC may well have said take the money but that only says it’s not clear cut.

He won’t release the details which will just leave people to make up their own minds. You think he evaded deliberately, I think he didn’t do it deliberately. We both think he’s a sly **** who I wouldn’t trust as far as I could throw him.
How do you evade doing something, but not “deliberately”? “I managed to avoid it, but, guess what, it was all an accident”

It's a funny old world, be a normal Civil Servant eg DWP, do anything iffy and it's all about where you are, you should know better therefore, any offence is deemed much more serious than a member of the public & the book is thrown at you.

I didn't fall foul but I know good people who have had careers ruined for very little but, because of their position they've been hammered.

In politics, it seems the same processes/principles aren't followed. I'm certainly not shocked but, not just this guy there's a long list of politicians who use 'mistake & genuine error'....that isn't an option even for relatively minor miscellaneous stuff at ground level.

As a politician if you've fucked up big, out they should go.

£3m = Toast

No seat belt = fucking idiot who isn't fit for purpose.

Loans via contacts = Toast.

That's just this week!!!!

He’s a very wealthy man, he won’t feel the £4M bill. He’ll be gutted he’s been found out though and his knighthood is down the toilet. He’ll be sick about that, which is good news!

Give over.

As per the report I’ve read and been told to re-read. Perhaps others should

9 July 2022: I conclude that, when Zahawi established YouGov in 2000, he arranged for the founder shares that would have been his to go to Balshore. It paid nothing for the shares. The only plausible reason for this is tax avoidance. I check my conclusions carefully and speak to tax accountants, solicitors, QCs and retired HMRC inspectors, as well as entrepreneurs familiar with startup formation. I’m stunned by the unanimity of opinion: this stinks.

Show me where he was accused that he deliberately evaded tax in that report and I will withdraw my statement. I’ll wait.

Assuming it's the same matter, it was reported last year that on the same day that Zahawi was due share value from selling YouGov, a company was set up in Gibraltar headed by a family member with a capital value of exactly the same amount as he was due.

There was nothing accidental about it, but it may just have been something that was hard to prove for certain due to the way the laws work. Probably also that he didn't want the details in court and to be crossexamined, although past evidence suggests that he may have broken the record for use of 'er' in testimony.

He tried to avoid paying tax. No one has said that was accidental, certainly not me. Neither is it illegal however annoying it is.

It’s an important distinction, avoid legal, evade prison. My own take is he tried to avoid but fucked up the process and ended up falling into evade. However his saving grace seems to be that evasion wasn’t deliberate - and that is important.

The point, amid the argument and legal jousting is this:

Why is Nadhim Zahawi's business based in Gibraltar and Jacob Rees-Mogg's registered in the Cayman Islands, while both tell the nation that essential services cannot be afforded?

This IS the bigger point and it is unacceptable for MP's to avoid tax.
