Nadine Dorries

Mad Nads has deleted her Twitter account today - that can only mean one thing - she is being elevated to the Lords and wants to prevent the relevant authorities from scrutinising her past and deciding on her suitability for elevation to that place

I'd not noticed but the DCMS (Culture/Media/Sport) Select Committee have issued a special report about Dorries accusing Channel 4 of using actors, and refusing to correct the record, something the ministerial code would require.

It's very rare to do this, as she was given several opportunities to amend it, but instead, their report ends:

Had Ms Dorries remained Secretary of State, driving a policy of selling the channel, we may have sought a referral to the Privileges Committee but, as her claims have not inhibited the work of the Committee and she no longer has a position of power over the future of Channel 4, we are, instead, publishing this Report to enable the House, and its Members, to draw their own conclusions.

Not entirely sure how the Honours committee will view that behaviour, but probably not well!

Ledvedev is a Lord. They will stamp most applications.

Dorries is finished as a political figure of any standing. She’ll return to the shadows, where she belongs.

Lebedev was advised against on security grounds and Johnson decided to do it anyway - the first time they've been overruled. Truss might have done it, by I think Sunak will judge it a waste of political capital to go against recommendations.

I guess it depends on who he’s recommended and what it would look like if he were to veto the worst nominees. It might give him a popularity boost should he stop someone awful becoming a Lord/Lady.

Yes, although I think he'd be best just to agree with their recommendations.
That way, he's behaving correctly and not interfering in the process.
