Name a Rush tune.

It would help to add context but a lot of us just post random music videos.
As for informed opinion Foggie well that’s highly subjective and does sound a bit conceited.
Let’s just say opinions and context and you have my vote :-)
I think UG is making the same point.
When I say "informed" I really mean "supportable", yes. You're right. "Informed" is too meta. I often understand records better when I learn about the artist or the process of making a record but that doesn't increase visceral enjoyment, true.

Should close the thread because rush are wank and it hopefully stops any chance of another of their videos being posted
There's plenty of ongoing threads where, to some, the subject matter is wank. I've just looked down page 1 of off topic, and I see 7 or 8 threads that, to me, wouldn't be missed if they were pulled. They haven't been closed, and this one won't.

I saw them on the Moving Pictures tour, last time I saw them. FOC.

You all good Foggy?
I'm fine. I know good and well the reason Rush gets so much stick here is that the grizzled old proggy Brits here are secretly afraid that Rush really are/were more talented from a playing-ability perspective than Yes and Genesis. :)

Well liked over here too.
Not just my generation either.
I was surprised to run into my nephews at the Rush concert in Dublin a few years back.

No accounting for taste.

It's about having INFORMED opinions, or arguments to support opinions, not just carpet-bombing a thread with "they're shit" and "irrelevant." THAT'S the issue. THAT'S my objection.

The issue with the new music thread is that there's no context -- just YouTube clicks and maybe a word or two about the bands. So it makes it hard to narrow down what you should listen to. Not that this is necessarily bad -- I should spend more time there for sure. Why the @BlueHammer85 and @RobMCFC threads are so great is that you have to present a record, and support your view -- why you like it or not, what it means to you, etc. There's almost no carpet-bombing.

@Protein Junkie sorry mate, I see you beat me to it :)

You see for me with new music, I don't want reviews or long winded explanations from people on the band. I want the discovery to be a new journey where whatever band has grabbed me sucks me in and I wish to learn about them on a personal level, but ultimately the music is all that matters to me not the critics or opinion of others.

Slow readers club is a recent example, they supported James at castlefield a few years back and I caught there last two songs, liking what I heard I got tickets for their next local gig and pre ordered their LP now even if I had listened to the album and hated it(I didn't btw ), I would be hating it through my own experience and not by proxy from others.

For me music is both personal and social, for new music the personal take precidence so I don't mind people just sharing new music without long winded tales.

For older music I like the anecdotes, but if it as a band I ain't into or dislke I will dispense with boring people and just tell them they ain't my thing. The use of the word shite is more a local colloquialism than an actual hatred of the music or genre, it just means they ain't my thing.

Rush are still wank mind ;-)
