Name a Rush tune.

You see for me with new music, I don't want reviews or long winded explanations from people on the band. I want the discovery to be a new journey where whatever band has grabbed me sucks me in and I wish to learn about them on a personal level, but ultimately the music is all that matters to me not the critics or opinion of others.

Slow readers club is a recent example, they supported James at castlefield a few years back and I caught there last two songs, liking what I heard I got tickets for their next local gig and pre ordered their LP now even if I had listened to the album and hated it(I didn't btw ), I would be hating it through my own experience and not by proxy from others.

For me music is both personal and social, for new music the personal take precidence so I don't mind people just sharing new music without long winded tales.

For older music I like the anecdotes, but if it as a band I ain't into or dislke I will dispense with boring people and just tell them they ain't my thing. The use of the word shite is more a local colloquialism than an actual hatred of the music or genre, it just means they ain't my thing.

Rush are still wank mind ;-)
That was the best explanation of why someone doesn’t explain things I’ve ever read! :)

I'm fine. I know good and well the reason Rush gets so much stick here is that the grizzled old proggy Brits here are secretly afraid that Rush really are/were more talented from a playing-ability perspective than Yes and Genesis. :)
Foggie I like you but trying to pit even Rush up against Yes on a technical level pfft I say :-)

Ok, well, prove it then. You haven't said much on the numerous album threads. Post a review. Enlighten us with your wisdom and your understanding of historical musical context. Dazzle us with your knowledge. I'm always happy to read different perspectives.

Notwithstanding the other thread is about "favo(u)rite" bands, not "best" bands, as to your list, apparently you think utterly-and-totally-irrelevant-outside-the-UK, cheap-Pete-Townsend-copycat-except-can't-write-a-hook, nothing-without-his-bandmates Paul Weller deserves to be on it. Well then.

Anyway, the Rush fan club is one I'm happy to have been a part of (admittedly years ago), "Moving Pictures" sold 4 million records more than you or I have, the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame says hello, and, no, I'm not "good" -- I'm a great poster.
Great post

All I’ll say is that if Rush aren’t great, then god help some of the bands we’ve got coming up in the Top 100 thread.

I’ve just spent 90 minutes watching a documentary on one of these unfathomably popular bands ...... and I still don’t get them. But I’ll save that for when they come up in a few days.

It’s a tough one! IMO: Peart is better than Bruford but Bruford is great. Squire is better than Lee but Lee is great. Howe and Lifeson — argh! Neck and neck? Tough one. Either one, I like them both. Rush never had a keyboardist (a foot pedalist in Lee basically). I don’t care for Lee nor Anderson as singers.

Anyhow, I really like Yes too — I just love giving Brits crap because of the “Gene-yes” obsession you lot have!

Just smiled at your post Foggie - the best response.
Picking between Yes and Rush is like being asked who your favourite child is :-)
I would just love to have heard a Peart - Squire rhythm section although Geddy is also great.
Howe beats Lifeson for me but again love both.
2-1 to the Brits :-)

Rush have a bigger catalogue of very good albums IMO with a cross section of styles. Yes have maybe 5 good albums.

Genesis have never been an obsession of the british, in fact they garnered a cult following here because of the general indifference of the public and press, they were bigger across europe than in the Uk as here they were seen as an indulgent middle class load of tossers.

Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins (R.I.P.) were more famous as solo artists later on though collins was still considered a middle class tory twat and open target for piss taking.
