Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a summer move for RB Leipzig's 20-year-old rising star Josko Gvardiol.

I think you are right to an extent. I think he was slightly injured, but could have played if called upon. I think with only having two left footed CB's, Pep rather had gone with Fernandinho. Ake can only play on the left and Laporte isn't as good on the right. Also Laporte is needed for his build up play so Pep made the call to put Dinho in instead of Ake. That's my opinion anyway.

He is a decent defender, loyal and never lets you down but when we are in possession he is a significant step down from our other CB's and 90% of the time we have the ball, so he is a weakness.

Cucurella has played as fullback, so has Phillips, not sure why would need a like for like replacement.
We may move to 5 at the back in which case a full on option would be needed. Otherwise, if we sign Cuckoo we should be covered.

You say lol, but that’s actually a very good point.

Pep likes his players to be flexible and with the 5 subs, who knows how many formations he could spring on the opposition in 96 minutes!

I agree we won’t be playing 3 at the back, it’s not the Pep way. I know Pep changes style of play each season but it is always based on control and proactive football.

3 at the back really means 5 at the back and a defensive but aggressive counter attacking style. We simply have too many creative players and midfielders In particular to play that on a consistent basis.
