Nathan Ake

Going to get some hounding for this. But honestly, on last season's performances, if both were fit and available I'd start Ake ahead of Laporte.

Tbf you deserve a hounding for that. Laporte was our best and most reliable defender last season. The amount of last-ditch blocks and tackles he put in during the run-in was insane.

LOL that's even worse, Laporte had a difficult period after his knee injury, last season he came back to his best, he was outstanding, Ake for me is a decent back up, nothing more, a 50m and I would rip Chelsea's hand off.

Look, no issue with Ake being sold at all. If Chelsea tempt him, and can tempt us, why not. He is probably the most expendable althought not necessarily the most easily replacable, but could bring enough money for it not to be an issue next year, and mostly deal with the injury concerns he has had.

But I think we massively underestimate his contribution to last season's title, his general quality and what he brings. Almost as if we forcefully try squeeze him into this 4th choice expensive nothing player to justify a mooted sale that may or may not happen.

I think Laporte is great, but he had some big lapses last season, that the likes of Ake or Sterling would have been crucified for. Ake on the other hand had some outstanding performances. Think Laporte is the better defender, think Stones is better still. Ake is a good second choice though when the first choices for the two positions are unavailable.

He probably was, in a season when 3 others were unavailable for huge chunks.
You are right, he had some top performances. He had some dodgy lapses too, that lesser liked players would not have so readily ignored.

But then so did Kompany quite often, so maybe part of the course.

The fact remains despite an defensive injury crisis at the business end of the season he was nowhere near the starting eleven, rumors of an injury, yet he played for his national team a week later.

Ake is a decent lad and player, never let us down but for me is very ordinary, a serious injury to the 3 other CB and the drop off to Ake is huge, especially when we have possession against a lesser team.

We over payed for him, so 2 years service and a 10m profit is incredible business.

We had an injury crisis in defence last season, Ive seen some comments saying it was a one off. But out of every position in the team our Centre backs apart from Dias are really likely to get injuries.

Stones gets knocks and little injuries that make him miss games / can’t start games which is annoying as he’s our best centre back. but he’s out frequently

Laporte is another one that gets knocks / little injuries here and there. The end of last season he was playing with an injury absolute warrior for that.

Dias injury history is pretty solid not much to worry about.

Ake gets injuries little Knocks , pulled muscles etc

Whos saying with the amount of games next season that two of our starting Centre backs don’t get injured with the history that they have. Especially if Ake goes you are down to three centre backs.

one who’s extremely fit and rarely gets injured, but then two in Stones and Laporte who have a history of picking up knocks ,muscle pulls, knee problems etc

You need a 4th choice as in history shows that one time during the season Laporte/Stones or maybe both will pick up something. Now add the World Cup,internationals,Cup competitions it’s extremely likely that one or both pick up an injury.

I think fans look at the numbers and think we’ve got 3 centre backs who are brilliant we will be fine for the season if Ake leaves , but reality is that 2 of the three are known to pick up little injuries across the season that makes them miss games.

De ligt linked with bayern munich today.
If true, could accelerate Chelsea's interest in Ake.

From what I've read from the Chelsea side of the story, we will let him go when we've lined up a replacement. That could be the key.
