Nathan Ake

!Ake is a v good player who would get even better given the opportunity to play more. It will be a pity if he goes.

Also, if we lose 4 players from this squad it risks undermining the teams ability to optimise cohesion and the performance level we need to attain and also improve on last season.

Changing too many players I feel is like a scientific experiment- you change 1or2things at a time, or risk failing.
Lovely stuff. Like a Poundland @gordondaviesmoustache . ;-)

Why? He’ll have a toddler and be on mega wages?

Theres no way any club would fork out £55m on a defender that they try to sell on 18 months later in advance.

That’s just bonkers.
He didn't last long at City and part of his reason for leaving us was game time (World Cup place being top priority). For this season he would be getting more of that but Chelsea longer term would be looking for better (as good as Ake is). Chelsea are good at recouping money and will probably continue under their new owner.

We can't keep every player we have, we have to evolve the squad. Jesus, Ake and Sterling aren't the players we turn to when we're playing Real, Athletico, Bayern and Liverpool are they? Honestly, they aren't. They are good players but they aren't in our first XI and we're going to get around £150m for them! Jesus and Sterling have a year left on their contract and Ake is our FOURTH CHOICE central defender!

We've just signed the best striker in the work (Haaland), he's not just an upgrade on Jesus he is an upgrade on every other striker we could've bought. We bought him for about £8m more than we've sold Jesus for!! Kane - rightfully - was valued at £100m last year and Haaland is younger and has the potential to be completely unplayable. He's as fast as Walker, stronger than Dias and ruthless in front of goal - you must see that as an upgrade on Jesus and Sterling?

Phillips is coming in to replace Fernandinho and is a decent player. He's shown for Leeds and England that he's a better player than his teams league position suggests. He will allow us to rest Rodri but also has the legs, tackling and power to do something that we missed as Fern aged.

Cucurella will come in and be the left back we've needed for years. He'll give us an attacking threat and pace, something we've never had for years now. No more right footers and midfielders at left back.

Honestly, feel free to correct me but this window is probably one of the best we've had in about 10 years.
Overall I agree, but as mentioned earlier in this thread-
Ake has/had more to come and already a v good player- given the chance. I think if we lose him now it will be a pity.
Also 4 key changes in our squad is a lot. It is an experiment and with scientific experiments you don’t change more than 1 or 2 things at a time.

Considering our three first choice centre halves are injury prone we better have a decent replacement nailed on for Ake.

Ake - 2 seasons, 27 games missed through injury. 13.5 per season.
Ruben Dias - 2 seasons, 8 games missed through injury. 4 per season.
Laporte - 4.5 seasons, 49 games missed through injury. 10.9 per season.
Stones - 6 seasons, 48 games missed through injury. 8 per season.

If anything we would be offloading our most injury prone defender.

Agree that we would need another centre back though.

To go to who? PSG, Barca, Madrid? None of them would want him and his wages would be too high for all other teams.

Football isn't scientific, it's an art. Luckily for us, we've got a Da Vinci!

There's just no way on earth we will ever just change one player per year. Sometimes we'll ship a few out, other times we'll bring in more than we ship out. Sure, it's no guarantee that each transfer in will improve us, but that's the risk we're taking. I think that looking at the players coming in/out that the quality of players has improved and we've got more tactical options - surely you can see that?

I think you have to look at the bigger picture. For me, winning the PL is the most important thing. For the owners - and players - winning the CL is the most important. With the best will in the world, I just don't see Ake, Sterling or Jesus ever winning one. Haaland WILL win it, it's just a case of 'with whom'. The Haaland signing is simply amazing, we've signed the most sought after young player in world football!

Enjoy it!
