I think it’s the CB cover as Stones can be out for long spells but the HG is important.

Akanji isn't HG but he is more versatile than Ake (can play both at RB and LB) and has been much more available.

It's strange our fans think it makes more sense to lose Akanji than Ake, especially in the context of many of Pep's interviews this year.

Nico is both needed in the middle if we get rid of older midfielders and wants to play there. O’Reilly can cover for a month or if desperate but shouldn’t be considered a LB.

8 defenders is right, that’s what I listed.

Ake is quality but his fitness issues are a problem, if he wasn't HG he would be the defender that leaves imo. More so than Akanji who manages 40+ games every year.

Makes no sense unless we have a homegrown defender (centre back or full back) lined up.
