Nathan Ake

Mixed feelings rn with him going

Good player, has been here for along time, is home grown

dude is injury prone, last season missed half the season

if we sell Akanji and Ake, then we will have 4 CB for this season, well knowing Stones we have 3,5 CBs for this season

Ake is a cracking player when fit. Stones is a cracking player when fit. But both are very injury prone, and not getting younger. Having both in a squad is dangerous, if as last year, they each miss half the season. It would be sensible to move one of them on, and that is most likely to be Ake.

All very true, but moving Ake on and not replacing him would make things even more precarious. Neither he nor Stones can be considered to be reliable, so losing one just puts pressure on the other.

If we moved him and Akanji on, we’d have to recall Reis or sign someone. Wouldn’t be averse to it but the smart decision is probably to keep him for another season.

i think if we move Akanji, we sign a RB

I agree entirely, and my comment is in the context of Pep wanting a small squad. So, if one has to go, it is probably best it’s Ake. Personally, given the demands and games, I wouldn’t be letting anyone go, and I’d be recruiting further. But that’s not what Pep wants.

Has been a good player for us, but he looked like he was running in treacle on Saturday.

His association trained status is a complication, but if moving him on improves the financial scope to bring in a top class right back, then it’s probably the right thing to do.
