Will take time to settle I think. He is quick and technically very good, would be perfect in a 4-3-3 rather than a 4-4-2. I think he needs a stable period in the side to get a relationship with the full back. It is all about getting the full back isolated and Navas space to run at people.

agree totally. it will take him time to settle and form an understanding with his team mates, some people especially the ones who start calling players who have just arrived shite are jumping the gun by quite a long distance.

remember the confeds cup - navas was one of the stand out players of the spanish side in that tournament

Sometimes it takes players time to settle in the premier league. Remember it took a certain mr silva a good few months to start getting chosen regularly. Navas has already shown good signs. Ripped united to shreds.

Was so excited after seeing him for Spain but been a bit of a dud so far. Still his first season in a new league though so hopefully he'll get better.

Yep I agree, the lad will need time I think most fair headed blues understand that. At Newcastle they had him double banked every time he got the ball, that means one of his team mates had loads of room!!

Needs to stay wide. Completely ineffective when he drifts/cuts inside

I still like him though. Plenty of room for improvement but the fact he seems capable of delivering one clear cut chance every game (even if playing shit) is not to be sniffed at even he isn't flashy like SWP for example.

Navas had a good game at Newcastle.

He was our only outlet for much of the game, and always made himself available. He isn't going to take on half a team on his own like Townsend, but he keeps the ball and uses it very well.

I disagree, in a 4-4-2 he should be hugging the touchline to stretch the defence, particularly as we don't have a natural winger on the left. However, full backs show him inside and he runs across the pitch leaving our right side deserted. Too often the Newcastle defence was able to sit within the width of the 18 yard box restricting the space in the middle of the pitch.

We have Silva and Nasri who come inside, and they're better with the ball once in the central areas. Navas should be staying wide, even if the ball's on our left flank as we'll then have an option to switch play with one diagonal rather than having to go across the two midfielders, it'll speed things up and disorganise the opposition defence. I agree with supercity88 though that he'd be better in a 4-3-3.

I just wish he'd stop doing an Adam Johnson and cut inside all the time. I thought when we got him he'd be bombing down the wing putting in crosses but he's hardly done that. And the times he has its usually resulted in a goal.
