Navas

A bit lightweight for me which I knew from La Liga
Is best played ina counter attacking system -away from home - we would really reap the rewards I believe

The worry for me is that I don't recall him beating a full back (not just getting half a yard and getting the cross in) in any of the ten or so games he has played in. And that's against Hull and Cardiff, not Bayern.

I'm not sure this "electric pace" is there either. A really fast, decent player will consistently beat his based on his pace alone when he is in some of the positions Navas gets into. Navas shows no sign of that.

No doubt a good player but I thought he must have changed his game from the player I'd see quite a bit of earlier in his career when people were billing him as someone who would fly down the wing and terrify full backs. A cruel assessment would be that he is a poor man's Silva, with a bit more pace.

The most valuable attribute in the game is a player who can take players out of the game and of a set defence by getting past them. Navas does not have that attribute and I hope that he wasn't bought with that in mind.

Give the guy a chance, he's only been at the club 5 mins and the best winger we've had for years.

He doesn't just run down the wing like a headless chicken and put the ball across, he looks up and tries to pick a man out and very good at it.
Fcuk Ronaldo would have struggled tonight against a Bayern side who were all over him like a swarm of flies, if Bayern were a racehorse they would be undergoing a dope check right now.
And also don't forget it was Richards first game in a while so his support was piss poor.

Nonsense. Ronaldo can receive the ball and pull a few tricks. He can run at defenders. He can hold up. Navas cant do any of that.

Best tactic against the massed ranks of PL and Euro fodder!

I know it's early days and he needs more time to try and prove himself but does anybody else fail to see what he offers our team at the minute?

He has a chance to really make a name for himself in a team crying out for a decent winger and he just isn't doing it so far, I expected to see him running at defenders with pace and beating them but I don't think he's done that once yet.

I see people say this a lot, what do you mean exactly?

Because I've seen him cross from the by-line several times, not very effectively but he does do it. I agree he needs to do better and had a shocker against Bayern with some of his misplaced passes but I still wonder if I'm watching the same player when people say he's never got past a fullback, of course he has.

He has pace, he also gets stuck in and will be a more than usefull squad player. There's not much our team can do if we are set up badly and there's not much the manager, or Navas can do, if our keeper drops at least one ricker in each match. Last night was a combination of bad management (selecting Edin), poor goalkeeping and playing against possibly the best team in Europe.

He stretches the game for us. Which is good because last year we did not have much width. He is also threat in the counter attack.

But err, he is not very good when it comes to running at defenders. He is more like a player who receives a through ball, then he runs with the ball and delivers a high or low cross. He is a one trick pony.

I thought pretty much everyone who had ever seen him play knew that before we signed him so I reckon quite a few had never seen him play
