But would having him on the wing have reduced their domination in the middle? This has been my concern with our desire to have 'real wingers' in the team - it means we have fewer midfielders controlling the game in the centre of the park. I'd rather we had enough midfielders in the middle to control the game, and use the full-backs to provide the width.

Me too. But all we heard last season on here was an obsession with pace and width. people calling for 2 old fashioned wingers constantly pumping crosses in. So basically people want to go back to the 80s

Old school 4-4-2 died a long time ago. I think some people were looking at the rags and wanting the same, well not for me thanks. I like the so called "boring" possession football because it means we're in control.

And on that note, I wish Pellegrini would grip Hart and ban him from kicking long, it's such a waste of the ball
 
Better than Scott Sinclair but slightly behind Adam Johnson, not in Peter Barnes' league.

Sorry but I am not sure what he offers, particularly in our team/style of play.

On the few occassions Zabba and Navas have played, Zabba does not have the space for his "trademark" overlaps.

Johnson has never and will never be anywhere close to Navas' level. Johnson can't even get in the England squad, Navas is in Spain's squad which says it all. Mancini sussed Johnson out and played him the only way you'll get anything out of him, throwing him on for 10 or 15 minutes after grinding a team down with possession. Johnson looks like a Championship player at Sunderland where he starts every game... his performance against Liverpool was even worse, League 1 standard.
 
I've just realised what he reminds me of with the style he has been playing.

He has been positioning himself and getting himself in the same sort of situations Martin Petrov used to.

With the difference being that Petrov, when he got in those positions, used to roast the full back and also struck his cross or shot with a lot more venom.

Personally, I don't think Navas can be anywhere near as effective playing that way, getting into space against a fullback, as Petrov could. He's a lot better in congested areas, but Silva and Nasri are better options for that - not to mention the likes of Ozil and Isco were available in the summer if you really wanted that sort of player.
