He was their best midfielder but I wouldn't say he bossed anything. England were by far the better side.

This.

He broke up a lot of play and pretty much always passed sideways or backwards. This is an aspect of his play I don't like. The best holding midfielders drive the play forwards. I know it's fashionable to crack one off every time his name's mentioned because he looks a bit hard, but 'bossing midfield' is one thing I've never seen him do.

Look out for him this season mate as I'm sure you will see him 'boss the midfield' in a lot of games. He was creative tonight but I know what you mean about the lack of creative passes. He rarely makes a stray pass which is the main thing though mate.

On the subject of De Jong, our defensive midfielder not making sparkling 35 yard passes cutting through opposition defenses I would like to criticize the following.

Robinho = When was the last defensive goal line clearance you saw him make?
Shay Given = He could at least try and contribute to our set plays from corners once and again?
Bridge = Why cant this guy at least attempt the odd cruyff turn out of defense?
SWP = Hasn't grown in the last 7 years.
Tevez = 25 minutes? Should of played through the pain barrier.
Ireland = Should play centre back every now and again to help link goalkeeper to defense.

All of them are shit.

I'm not quite sure what people expect of NdJ.He's a holding midfielder who does exactly what he's supposed to.He has Barry and Ireland infront of him to do the 'Surging runs from midfield' job.

My opinion - albeit controversial, people who think De Jong is shit dont understand the tactical side of football.

He is outstanding at the job he does. Just having him there stopped a lot of the hoofing up front from our defenders. He's one of those unsung hero kind of players, similar to Kevin Horlock. He just comes in, does his job and does it well. He will never do anything spectacular; Ireland, Tevez, Robbie etc are there for that. He's the sort of player who's value you question until you really look closely at his game.

He's always available, his movement allows Ireland to drop deep and receive the ball, he dictates play and breaks things up. With the added help of Barry, that middle three will rival any in the league.

Every side needs a NDJ. He does the simple things and does them well. It is his job to break down the oppositions play, win the ball back then give it to the more creative players in the team, whether that is Holland or City.

Personally speaking I thought he did that role bloody well last night and looked 'at home' playing in an international side that is rated as one of the 5 best in the world. I am glad he wears our colours!!

Having Nige and Vinnie is a bit of a blessing IMO. Nige is great against passing teams like Arsenal/West ham/Liverpool as he eats up the ground quickly. where as Vinnie seemed to play better against the 'long ball teams' because of his height. It's all about the options. :-)
