Nedum Onouha

What's all this 'the lad', 'potential' business?

First team debut 27th October 2004. Hardly in the 'lad with potential' category. You have to ask yourself who is breaking down our doors to sign him? Is it Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona maybe?

No, it's Sunderland, and there is a reason for that. Those people who say he isn't good enough for our current level are bang on. Sentimentality for locals lads, academy etc, is all very worthy, but will see us back out of CL spots.

Fair do's..but ask yourself..would you have been saying the same thing about Micah last year..probably..most of us were...personally, I genuinely still feel Ned has the pace, vision and strength to be a world class defender for the next few years..my opinion is not based on sentimentality (otherwise I'd be campaigning for Ishmael to return!!), but on what I have seen of him on the ball...I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

Homegrown quota may need boosting for next season with some of the probable outgoings like SWP and Bridge.

Kolarov
(new lb signing)

Kompany
Toure
Lescott
Onouha

Richards
Zabaleta

looks good to me, but Nedum probably won't be on the bench for most games.

for all the dicks on here refusing to believe what he actually said

better than boyata? Dont make me laugh

better than Kolo? experience count for nothing nowadays does it

then the fact hes always injured

get rid

Just because you've got money it doesn't mean you have to spend it, but if you are to spend it, spend it well. Make sure it's a player that's going to fit into the team and help the team go forward

Nah he didnt slag the manager off did he LOL

It makes me sick to see some of the comments in here.

Most of our defenders this season have come on to the point where our defence is unrecognisable from 18 months ago. What makes you think that Ned is unteachable whereas the others in our defensive setup managed to learn to play as a tight defensive unit?

Ned has the pace and intelligence to be a top class CB, two things a load of people on here bang on about - "You can't find pace if you don't have it" and you certainly can't become intelligent if you are basically as thick as a brick.

He's well thought of at Sunderland by the fans, who, when all is said and done are a PL team. If he's good enough to be a first team player at Sunderland he's certainly good enough to be a squad player at City - or do you think we are going to have someone like Metzelder sat on the bench on £120k/week?

I'm not suggesting he will walk into the 1st team but, after some defensive coaching like the rest of the team has had, he should be easily good enough to fill in as a squad player. Whether he pushes on to become a 1st team player is then up to him.

All teams need squad players, like Wes Orange or John O'Gay at the scum, who can come in and do a good enough job covering injuries and rotation.I'd much rather it was a blue from our academy than some random dutch, spanish, portuguese CB who I've never heard of. The fact that it helps us out on home-grown status quota is gravy on top.

Totally agree. The guy has pace bottle speed and can score too. Look what Bobby has done for Micah and Lescott. All he needs is some tactical awareness and he could be alternated at RB or CH for premiership games.

I'm sorry but this gets my goat...Nedum Onuoha is not fast.

Not football fast at least. To be football fast u need to be able to change direction at speed...in other words for a CB you need to be quick, not fast.

Nedum is nowhere near "quick" enough. He gets turned inside out at times.A player like Silva,Kaka etc would tear him apart.Even Sturridge or Nzogbia.

He's okay against the likes of Kevin Davies,John Carew or even Berbaflop, but anyone who can control a ball at pace will destroy him.

Boyata looks far more composed against both and has a lot less experience than Nedum so in time will far surpass him.Plus on the ball he has far more composure.

Nice kid, played a part but is nowhere near our level.

Reece Wabara looks a far better prospect so take some cash for Ned.
