I mean I'm impressed that they even have a league, and a national team....I mean it's not your usual crap side from that last pot either, they got 4 points in the qualification for this world cup, losing just 1-0 to France. The other year they lost 1-2 to Italy before Euro 2008...and these are competative games, not friendlies. For a country which only has enough people to fill a stadium that's REALLY impressive...I mean only half of that population will be male and just a portion of them will be either old enough or young enough to play football....they must all be footballers!

They are indeed - 5000 thousand of 50000 or every tenth are registred footballers - the world record! Football on the Faroes is a religion. Too many Man Utd fans but this will soon be changed, for sure...

With Gunnar in goal in the previous U21 qualifiers, the Faroes only lost 1-2 away & 0-1 at home to Italy, with decisive goals scored just a few minutes before the end.

In the current Euro U21 campaign, now without Gunnar, the Faroes beat Russia (!) at home and Latvia away and have got 8 points in as many games - isn't that incredible, with only 1500 boys on the Faroes at the age 17 to 21, never mentioning football players???

The Russia U21 triumph can be seen here:

Let me get this right!

Our stadium can all most fill the entire population of the Faroe Islands?!?!?!?!?!?!

Well, the current total population of the Faroes (the biggest ever in fact) is slightly below 49 thousand.

So, principally it is possible to get the entire Faroese population to fill City of Manchester Stadium, with babies sitting on their parents' knees... ;-)

If you want to know something about Faroes, there are some links:

Very good tourist video:

WORLD FUTBOL report about Faroese football from 1995:

The golden moment of Faroese football, the National Team's debut in international competitions and the stunning triumph against Austria, back in September 1990 (great emotional Faroese commentary):

A couple of classic Faroese matches, vs. Scotland:

BTW, another former HB Tórshavn (Gunnar's original club) & Faroese international keeper with 4 caps in 1991 & 1992, Kaj Leo Johannesen, is presently serving as a prime minister of the Faroes!

Very interesting videos there. I have a soft spot for the Faroe Islands, in the 2010 qualifiers they didn't disgrace themselves at all, France only managed a 1-0 win in Torshavn, and in the Serbia game they gave a good account of themselves, but class and superior fitness told in the end. You have a tough Euro group, but good luck, give Italy another hard time!

If Neilsen is between the sticks for the final 3 matches who is going to be on the bench?

Sorry if alredy asked...can't find

Just a thought here, as anyone even contemplated he is half decent? Hughes may of been found wanting with regards to tactics, couldn't say the same with his signings. Retained him at burn, and saw enough to bring him to city. We've been looking for a hero, how about one from the Faroe isles? Good luck to the kid

He claimed the ball very well on 3/4 occasions, but his set up for that Van Persie free kick was a little out. He did very well and certainly looks capable, but I can understand if Roberto wants an experienced guy in goal for these critical final games. Trouble is, who fits the bill and can we get them? Has to be good enough, available and, for me, English speaking and/or exceptionally commanding.

Candidates I can think of, if Hart is not an option, I'm afraid we may have to look over the road at either Foster or Kuszack. Either that or give Brum a nice little £2m incentive to release Joe, to compensate for the places they could lose.

Buying another keeper is not in our interests really, but we have to get fourth so maybe it's inevitable - buy a decent keeper and I can see Hart getting peed off tho. We'd be looking at something like Scott Carson if we were given permission to buy someone - a guy who accepts he maybe won't play much but could get some European football and a massive wage, but even that will only appeal to some.

The lad done good as they say! Good luck for the rest of the season Gunnar. Do Shay proud. You can keep us up there in fourth with the excellent defence behind you. (Or in front of you as the case may be! :-))

Is Fillip Mental still here (Slovakian goalkeeper)? If so he might be backup, I remember him featuring on the bench in the Valencia friendly. If not theres a young Norweigan goalkeeper called Tobias Johansen, who might be on the bench.

According to this we only have an academy keeper Loris Karius fit.

Good work Gunnar - hopefully will become a fine ambassador for his country. Good luck securing 4th spot City fans.
