Never doubt Pep

The only possible game that we didn't appear in was the FA Cup final.

I know for a fact that Pep felt he needed to change something after two consecutive defeats to Chelsea and that he chose to go down a very attacking route (and TBF, albeit fine tuned, he still did that yesterday, with great success).
Those games can be explained due to the inferior personnel he chose.

Yesterdays team looked the part and it walked the walk.It was obvious to most that we would be a handful, and we would probably be better than our opponents, and guess what..... we were.

I’d bet every penny I had on us never having a better manager than Pep, but he dropped a bollock in the CL.
Agreed. Ive defended Pep against anything and everything even before City. I'm a huge fan of his.

But you do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES use the Champions League Final to try something you haven't done all season with formation/tactics because you have a hunch.

But that is what we get with him. No one could have done better than him over all. Klopp fucked up lfc season last year by not getting a defensive bkup. They all fuck up and I would rather have peps fuck ups than ANY OTHER manager.

That's just rubbish. If the Academy players were good enough Pep would pick them. However he stands or falls on results only so he has a simple unwritten contract with the club: you produce them good enough and I'll play them.

You could see on Tuesday how excited he is by this current crop but the truth is that, despite the fact that he's introduced dozens of kids to the first team over the years, we haven't produced anyone beyond Foden yet (maybe Sancho too) who are good enough for City's level.
To reach the point where the academy regularly supply a player, it is said takes 10 years. All about identification at an early age and training them into good habits year after year. It is now ten years since the revamp of the academy and the fruit is beginning to blossom. Two of the back 4 in the LC were just 17 yrs old. If they are good enough, Pep will play them.

Everyone makes mistakes. He thought that was our best team to play that day. Tuchel , Klopp ... they all lost champions league finals before. Everyone loses sometimes. Why do you expect Pep to be a robot and never make mistakes ? Why the double standard for Pep and everyone else ?

That’s because the only player who’s been good enough to get regular starts in the first team is Foden.

Do you think any of the following players will have contributed to the same amount of trophies in the last five years as the much much much better players ahead of them did:
Enes Unal
Callum Bullock
Aaron Mooy

Most of these went to lower league clubs, other inferior leagues around the world or aren’t even in football anymore. And the few who may have had a very slim chance to be good enough had excellent players ahead of them in their position.

Why would we blood future League 1 and MLS players, and future taxi drivers and factory workers, into our first team when we try and win every single trophy we play in?

That group of lads who played against Wycombe were in the team because they aren’t like any of those names listed above, they are like Foden, simply worthy of being in the team because they are good enough.
Blimey, Hope you ‘copy and paste(d)’ that

I suspect its bedcause the newspapers say it enough then the fans will believe it . Pep is held to account so much more than any other manager. Crazy.
Exactly. For example Tuchel lost a champions league final with PSG , a club that has the same money we have and has invested massively in their team but nobody mentions that, for Pep its always mentioned that he spent money and didnt win the CL.
Tuchel won the CL with a team he didnt built himself , but thats never mentioned, whenever people talk about Pep they say he won the CL with Barcelona because there were already great players there .
Pep is always judged differently as if he is expected to win the CL and every trophy anywhere he goes to otherwise hes a fraud, while other managers dont have to.

I get what you mean but to be fair to tuchel that chelsea team were a complete mess until he took over and unexpectedly won them the champions league.

Was hardly a hunch, he thought he needed something different, so he tried it it didn’t work if you want a manager that is always thinking, and we do, that can happen. Though that hardly excuses the 2 chances we missed that should have been scored.Still time to stop harping back to that game.

Barca finished 3rd in Spain a season before Pep took over and they were depending on players like Ronaldinho or Deco that werent delivering anymore, he gotten rid fo themmand rebuilt the team.
Pep's first CL title with Barcelona si still a lot more impressive than Tuchel's with Chelsea.

Pep is a genius should be grateful for however long we have him because this is a golden era even with all our spending power we may never have this good because PEP gets an extra 10% out of the team just like all the other top managers like KLOPP and tuchel e.t.c these managers don't grow on trees, the replacement will be good but better than pep that's a stretch.
Why is klopp in capitals?

I thought we were excellent yesterday and there is a model for how we will play for the rest of the season, but it also shows the degree to which luck and fine margins shapes football at this level. If we'd taken one of our early chances in the CL final, or if a deflection had bounced into the net as it did yesterday, then it would have forced Chelsea to come at us, and allowed us to pick them off on the break when the space opened up, and Pep would have been a genius. Liverpool played a stinker in their CL final but were gifted a silly early penalty. On yesterday's result I wish we'd played Rodri, but lots of players underperformed in May when they didn't do yesterday. That's the game. As Pep hints at, if you want a sport where the best team always wins there's plenty out there (he mentions tennis and basketball), football doesn't always give you that!

I agree. The guy is a chronic overthinker and will likely give himself a heart attack. But even if he got that one wrong, there literally isn't another manager in world football id prefer to have at the club.

If you can find where I said that he wasn't allowed to make mistakes you can have a cookie.

My point is that as a manager you bring the formation and set up that you've destroyed the league with and got to the final with. You dont try something that you haven't tried in a competitive game for the first time in the biggest game of the season.

He made a mistake and he knows it. Fortunately with Pep his biggest weakness is also his strength. I dont doubt for a second that he has microanalysed that game into the ground.

This is a man that came into the league, finished 3rd, used one offseason to adjust and produced the literal greatest single season team in PL history.

If you feel like youre more intelligent than Pep go apply for the manager spot , lad. You obviously seem to know better than Pep how to run this team.

Cry more.

The entire footballing universe said he got that game wrong. He's allowed to make mistakes. But we're also allowed to acknowledge when he makes them.

It doesn't take away from him being the greatest manager we've ever had or one of the best in football history. Every great has a mistake in their backlog. Stop being so precious about him.

Get over it
