Never meet your heroes.....

Also met Buzzer in the car park of Wetherby Services on the A1, it was the season of the first Prem win and we were trailing Utd at the time, I said 'Mike- whats gone wrong' he said 'its been a great season, don't worry about it' - it was about to get a whole lot better.
He then said he'd just bumped into Dennis Tueart in the same services, and just then a big fuck off Merc drove by- 'DT 1' or similar, and pipped and waved, I like to think to both of us, but probably just Mike.

I met Rolando Bianchi at a Morrisons once. I told him I was a big fan but that I didn’t want to be an idiot and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Eh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “eh? eh? eh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off.

When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Mars bars in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was said “Excuse me, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Might upset a few on here and might not fall under the "Hero" category, but whilst watching City preseason train in Bavaria, Mark Hughes was really sound. Invited us on pitch for photos and stopped for a chat after the session. Decent fella, also Craig Bellamy and Martin Petrov were very pleasant to chat to, in fact Bellamy told an impatient journalist to wait while he chatted to us. Top couple of days allround.

Jo had just signed and looked completely lost...walking round with a dazed "what the f*** am I doing here" look.

Bit of a misleading title thread. Meets are usually a mutually agreed arrangement. Wonder how many hero’s agreed to meet. How many of these meets have resulted in a lasting friendship with their hero’s. As Arsenal said last night when defending there training arrangements. If the players train in open spaces they get “pestered” by fans for selfies etc. I wouldn’t lower myself to pester someone who wasn’t interested in me. I bet for the hero’s it’s a similar experience we have when we get “pestered” by the drunk at the bar.

While I kind of agree with you to some extend surely you cannot deny them some time to themselves, their friends and their family. I remember meeting Niall Quinn once out with his family and choosing not to speak to him for that very reason. They are real people and not being able to go out without being pestered all the time must screw with your mental health.

Indeed, yep, and I kind of agree with you too. I myself wouldn’t go and disturb or approach anyone, and haven’t done if I’ve ever seen someone who is or was famous or recognisable, for exactly the reasons you’ve said and other reasons too. However, my point though was that if others do choose to do that, I honestly think part of the ‘deal’ the Faustian pact whatever you want to call it, of all that fame and fortune is that, I’m afraid, mental health or no, you just have to accept it, and should do so with good grace. But yeah, on a personal level, agreed.

Being a Kinky loyalist I was utterly devastated when he completely blanked me when I tried letting on at the Trafford Centre bitd (he was at the cinema for the East is East premiere iirc). Naturally his Mrs was 9/10 and about 3” taller! Still hurts to this day....not fit to lace Spanish Dave’s boots the twat.

Tricky Trevor Sinclair obliged with a friendly wave (same venue different day) when I shouted to him ‘how’s it going Trev?’ Truth was I couldn’t place him and knew his name only after his reply did the penny drop who it was....nice chap.

Pissed up in Cardiff (after Rags v Wigan LCF long story). Bumped into Jeff Whitley who was equally pissed (did he play for Cardiff?) who proceeded to slag off Keegan for a full 30 minutes, saying that Pearce was Keegan’s teachers pet/snitch.

Bert Trautmann....absolute gent as was Sir Tom Finney.

When we met Kinky in Amsterdam on the Ajax tour, he was so friendly and as chatty as he could be. One in the group gave him a card with the address of his mate's bar in the city centre we were all going to that evening, and he and his girlfriend/missus both not only turned up, but had drinks, lots of photos, and he even put on the new City shirt. Top lad.

You must have caught him on a bad day, lol

lol, The Boo, don’t get me started! After doing ‘The North Face’ of the A6, ending up in there you were never at your best.
Never ventured to Acton Court, but did visit The Valley Lodge, Hamilton’s, and the mighty Quaffers. None could match Rotters of course, but boy they tried.

May I throw in Monroes and the Blue Waterfall to the roll of honour. Both establishments once visited never forgotten.

I have heard that from others about Tiger Woods. Apparently nearly all the other pro golfers are great, Tiger is very different to them.

yep met many , lucky enough to have played to a high level and caddied on the European tour ...

most of them are awesome ...... Michael Campbell the New Zealand guy who won the US Open is a legend
