Never meet your heroes.....

Does it count - non Man City players? I have met a few City players (past not present) but met Rod Stewart on many occasion. First time in a hotel and he went to play football in the afternoon on the hotel lawns - he asked me if I fancied joining in. Long story short I ended up on the back stage pass list and met him as a result shed loads of times. Always said hello to me and spoke to me rather than other way around (including calling me out at concerts a few times). And he isn't a red - never was - just that his hero was Dennis Law. Strangely spent more time talking about Arsenal and Tottenham than Celtic (prob cos I was talking Man City). Proper hero who acted how one should do.
Sat next to Frannie Lee on the train in 1st class going down to a City away game when he was chairman. Hated him (certainly NOT my hero) and always said if I saw him I would have a right go at him. Ended up having a few drinks with him on the way down and he was perfectly friendly. Still thought he was a shit chairman if only for introducing Alan Ball - but unfortunately he seemed a nice guy when I met him so I was almost disappointed

In the olden days when City players and ex city players went to supporters clubs Q and A's I met loads over the years....

Top of the shop was Andy Morrison, great bloke. (best ex manager Horton)

Yeah, actually I think I recall the G&D burning down in an unfortunate fire, though I could be mistaken. Spent most of my time further down, between the Grapes and the Bull.

It was The Grove Inn that was burned down, long after it had closed down though, think it was to speed up the creation of about a dozen flats.

It's as though you two have been strolling through my past, grew up in HG and spent many nights in all the pubs you have mentioned, settled eventually for the Tunnes/Grapes. The Boo was great to have locally for the late drink and to round off the night with a good battle on Commercial Rd. Good shout for Acton Court and grab a gran nights, also the Sportsmans Evenings, attended some crackers there.
The Offerton lot tended to use the boozers between the Anchor and the G&D, we weren't keen on them venturing any further south, ruffians.

I met Uwe at a hotel in Newcastle once. He was manager of a Norwegian team at the time (Lillestrom?) and they were over to play Newcastle in an Intertoto cup match. He was a really nice bloke and does seem to genuinely love City.

May I throw in Monroes and the Blue Waterfall to the roll of honour. Both establishments once visited never forgotten.
The Blue, what a place that was, needed your wits about you in there. What about the County Club/Jacobean, chicken in the basket and Hermans Hermits.

“further south” lol.
Yeah, I did used to get a bit annoyed at the Boo with their “dress code” back then. You’d go out in Manchester or Liverpool no problem, jeans, whatever, all the proper dance music clubs and so on. Then come back to the mighty boo, the “north-west’s top nightspot” and it was hang on, this is the bamboo here, proper dress only; shirt, proper trousers, shoes etc! Or maybe that was just to keep me out.

Was guest of former striker Gordon Davies before the Fulham FA Cup game this season which included being invited into the executive lounge, while Gordon was outside doing his talk on CitySquare I somehow built up the courage to approach Colin Bell, who was sitting down in the side room we were in just off the Tunnel Club entrance, you could not wish to meet a more unassuming man, a real gentleman. We spoke for about 5-10 minutes in which The King told me he’d never change the era he played in but would of happily accepted the pitches & wages. To say I was star struck is an understatement. Also in the room were Tony Book, Stan Horne and Mike Summerbee so not bad company.

For the record Gordon Davies is a top top fella too who grew up a City fan, had trials at City when he was 14 and eventually signed in 1985.
After watching Us demolish leeds 6-1 at Maine Road in The Full Members Cup on a freezing cold October evening in front of 4029 fans, I managed to get back to The George and Dragon Hotel in Altrincham for the last hours drinking. Right on last orders I noticed a smallish gentleman who'd just come into the building bedecked in a City tracksuit and who plotted up at the bar, it was only Our hat-trick scoring hero from that evening Gordon Davies on his home debut. Without hesitation I was there offering a celebration drink and wanting to know a lot more. This hotel was to be his temporary home while he settled in at City. A nicer man you couldn't wish to meet and most days after training I would be in the said abode helping him demolish his big plate of sandwiches.

A gent and blue to the core.
Garry Owen .
Me and Mrs Spanish spent about an hour talking to Phill Neville and his family at Alicante airport what a nice family they were.
But not a hero : )
