Never meet your heroes.....

Met Micah Richards at a player of the year award under Sven a couple of times and seen him in the print works, he was a prick every time (both him and Gelston Fernando's were making jokes about the people who's shirts they were signing. Incidentally the nicest player each time we went was Martin Petrov, absolute gentleman and the same can be said about Txiki, he takes some stick but what a nice man.

Away from city In my job I've managed to get to know Jay Spearing and he is such a nice guy speaks very highly of city aswel.

Funny how opinions differ. I met Richards in Selfridges in town and we had a good chat. He’d just broken into the first team. Same goes for Gelson as I bumped into him on deansgate and he seemed humble and was a bit surprised he’d been recognised.

I bumped into Petrov and he couldn’t be arsed talking and same goes for Didi Hamman too.

Nicest celeb I’ve ever met is Johnny Marr. Genuinely sound guy and wanted to talk about City and not just about himself.

Keith Curle was a grade A prick and could have got me sacked from my first real job. I had set up a big interview with him and arrived at Maine Road reception and he told me to wait while he got washed and changed.

It was a big thing for me but he slipped out the back door without an apology, leaving me to face the music back at the office.

I was gutted for him when he was caught by staff shagging a young girl in the gym a few weeks later.

Imagine my different treatment from a certain David Beckham when I went to a press call at adidas in Stockport in the early 2000s.

He was an absolute gent and gave me a lift back to town in his blue Porsche Boxster after someone let me down on a lift back into Manchester.

Same age as me and he was genuinely interested in how I had got into the business.
He always later let on to me when in the same bars - met with a mixture of disgust and complete admiration from my fellow blue mates - also always saw them pull!

I'm a big boxing fan - again, two very different experiences.

Frank Bruno? Just a horrible ****.

One of my great privileges was to spend an hour with Tommy 'The Hitman' Hearns at the Midland hotel towards the end of his career - with Manny Steward alongside.

Tiffany earring, sharp suit, classy as hell and the only person I have ever asked a personalised autograph from during my career.

Was that the time fought Nate Miller at the arena? Always regret not going and seeing the great man in the flesh.

I met Rolando Bianchi at a Morrisons once. I told him I was a big fan but that I didn’t want to be an idiot and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Eh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “eh? eh? eh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off.

When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Mars bars in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was said “Excuse me, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

The flip side of that is when I found myself sat next to Edwin Van Der Sar on a flight to Amsterdam, circa 2007 and despite my admission of supporting the other Manchester club he was friendliness personified and very complimentary towards the loyalty of the City support.
Give over. He played for THAT LOT, he can't be nice.

Does it count - non Man City players? I have met a few City players (past not present) but met Rod Stewart on many occasion. First time in a hotel and he went to play football in the afternoon on the hotel lawns - he asked me if I fancied joining in. Long story short I ended up on the back stage pass list and met him as a result shed loads of times. Always said hello to me and spoke to me rather than other way around (including calling me out at concerts a few times). And he isn't a red - never was - just that his hero was Dennis Law. Strangely spent more time talking about Arsenal and Tottenham than Celtic (prob cos I was talking Man City). Proper hero who acted how one should do.
Sat next to Frannie Lee on the train in 1st class going down to a City away game when he was chairman. Hated him (certainly NOT my hero) and always said if I saw him I would have a right go at him. Ended up having a few drinks with him on the way down and he was perfectly friendly. Still thought he was a shit chairman if only for introducing Alan Ball - but unfortunately he seemed a nice guy when I met him so I was almost disappointed
I’ve never liked his music but does seem a very genuine bloke.

Met Joe Corrigan quite a few times over the years & he's always been a lovely guy.
Trevor Francis came across as a right arrogant cnut when he played for us and refused my request for an autograph. Years later i met him in Birmingham and explained what he'd did when i was a kid & he couldn't have been nicer, said sorry and then was very patient when my Mrs at the time took ages trying to take a photo of us.
Met Slur Alex once, sorry boys but he came across as a decent guy & had time for everybody

This thread has taken a turn for the worse. Damned lies being peddled by Trafford apologists

I think it is funny to expect anyone to be nice when they have having their personal time and space invaded every five mins, they just want to go about their day like everyone else,a by product of playing football is getting recognised but it doesn't mean they like it

But they will take our money.

It costs nothing to be nice
