Never meet your heroes.....

Loved reading that mate, for me, Tommy was only a decent chin away from being the man back then, and I include MMH (fuck me what a tough guy) and Sugar Ray, and I don't say that lightly, still, to this day, the way Tommy finished the Duran fight was possibly the best knockout I've ever seen.
Hearns had amazing fast hands as well. In the first round against MMH you literally didn't want to blink incase you missed anything. But imo MMH was and will always be the best pound for pound boxer.

Remember the shameful scenes when Hagler beat Alan Minter

Minter had stoked things up before the fight with his "no black guy will take my title" comment, which resulted in a nasty racist element at the fight.

Tommy's chin aside, yes maybe mate, I always had a soft spot for Hagler after that shocking night against Minter, truly truly appalling, plus he rarely gets the credit he deserves, even to this day though, I still feel blessed I was involved and around to witness such a golden era for boxing, don't think anyone will see the like in a very very long time.

Yep, don't think we will he like again. And don't even get me started on the current heavyweight division. Farcical and tepid

Not too far away pal as I’m in Colne. I’m Manchester born and moved to east lancs just after the Halifax game!! I remember Peter Noble’s shop well and bought many City kits there in the early 80s

Ha ha. Yes - I did something similar a bit earlier. I was at Fishermore school. How about you?

John Terry also a prick (imagine my surprise).

A mate told me Terry was used for a photo shoot back in the day. Terry had to hold a football, which was delicately mocked up with rub-on transfers etc. - took it ages to do (it also had to be approved by the client - and all that hassle) and was very delicate.

Terry was advise about how fragile the work that'd been do to the ball was, and that they didn't have another. So the twat bounced it on the floor, then hoofed it miles.....and laughed.

Not my hero obviously but bumped into John Terry, Joe Cole and Lampard at Manchester Airport the day before the New England Kit launch 2006.

We’d been on a jolly and were absolutely steaming....we started jumping around singing England songs as they were getting in their car....I grabbed Terry and he was jumping around with us joining in.. the other two less so but they did join in and posed for a picture.....good sound lads to be fair considering we couldn’t string two words together.

Wayne Bridge likes this post.

Wasn’t there a story about a highly unpleasant incident at an airport bar soon after 9/11 where some footballers were singing songs taking the piss with American tourists around? Anyone else remember that, or am I imagining it?
