Neville's assessment of where city are failing

Just watching Milan and Barcelona. Its Half-Time. Just wondering if Gary Neville was giving an assesment now, would he say Barcelona lack width?

That was possibly one of the biggest let downs i have ever watched, both teams full of world class players but really disappointing to watch with all the pre match hype it was given :/

So he just spouts the same shit you hear on here or in the pub and suddenly he's a tactical genius? Give it a rest. Everyone and their dog knows what our problems are don't need this rat faced twat to explain it to me. Also notice his impartiality crumbles away when it comes to a rags vs City discussion.

Not everyone. I can name you one Italian who doesn't/cant see what they are.

The way Neville was saying teams had adopted to playing City (leave the full backs have the ball) that's exactly how to play Barca but the difference is it's obviously much tougher as their central players are so superior.

Chelsea nearly did a number on them in '09, Hiddink had his tactics spot on. He closed up everything in the centre and let Alves have it. I lost count of the amount of times Terry and Alex headed away an Alves cross. Chelsea were actually really unfortunate not to go through in the end.

Mancini can't magic up some wingers at this point in the season can he? I am certain he knows what our problems are but before January we were looking like world beaters so can't blame him for not buying anyone then and now we just have to make do with what we have. He will already have players he wants in mind.

Never said he could, did I? What i was getting at was that, even before the January window opened, our away form had started to creak. Therefore, he did have the chance to go out and try to find a decent wide man . Not saying he would have succeeded, but he could have tried. Unless he is of the opinion that no width is not a problem. That's for him to answer. As you said yourself; just about everybody else looks on it as a flaw, along with a lack of blinding pace in the side.

I had to bow down as ratface was spot on.

Someone should record it and upload it as I didn't get to watch the whole analysis.

Pretty much summed up why we aren't able to score as much. Teams have found us out.

He said teams don't see our fullbacks as a threat and don't leave players to mark them.

They stay in the middle where Nasri, Silva, Yaya, et al want to penetrate.

Basically, they give our fullbacks space and pack the middle, because all our fullbacks will do is cross, and they'd rather defend crosses then give up our biggest threat: penetration through the middle.

No one scores with every attack, well we nearly did in the last 10 minutes at the swamp, but our full backs need to get into the box more with the ball. It throws up a whole set of problems that don't occur if they simply look for the cross, but it also means we need more bodies in there from midfield and a bit more faith from the forwards.

have still not heard a decent reason why this lack of width only affects our away results though

The full-backs can't get forward the same as home matches, where the opposition pretty much line up on the 18 yard line most games.

Away from home they have to defend more, therefore attack less.

And it fucks us up. Once teams had sussed it, even crap like Villa and Wigan make it hard for us.

Neville is hardly a genius. We`ve been saying it for a while that when our plan a is not working we could do with a plan b. Plan b is wingers who can get to the byline and cross it in.

We have a similar plan a like barca but lack someone with similar skills to Messi to get us out of the shit.
