New Beatles song released

As a massive Beatles fan I was anxious about this song. Because part of what made them great was quitting at the top unlike other acts ( a lot who took on many of their ideas) we can all name who go on too long.

Listening to it it’s not bad and it’s great to hear Lennons voice with a fairly decent tune.

But it lacks that certain something which made the band special.

Pretty much agree with this. There’s a few bits in it where it’s very Beatles but given its genesis, it was never going to be like the songs they properly wrote together. Still their strengths with melody in particular come through.

Just found it nice to listen to something I haven’t heard before by them for the last time.

I watched the One Show special last night and commented to my other half that would there still be the same deference towards The Beatles if John hadn't have been murdered in 1980?
Would there still be the same love if he turned into a cantankerous old man like Van Morrison, or descended into a sea of bland like McCartney, Elton John or Cliff Richard?
I guess we'll never know.

Yes, yes there would. Had they got back together again then possibly not but the deference already existed before Lennon died, they had it right through their career together and post it.

Couldn’t that be said of most supposed icons who died early, Elvis, Cobain etc.

I don't disagree with that. The Beatles seemed to have an audience that seemed to transcend a normal pop or rock audience. My parents mainly listened to classical music, but they owned a copy of "Sgt. Pepper" which they played on a regular basic.
I was first exposed to it round about 10 years after it was released, and to my childhood ears, it sounded like an ancient relic!
Saying that, I do find The Beatles' experimental side and their embracing of technology fascinating, and realise that they (or maybe George Martin's influence) were well ahead of their time.
Not a fan of their early cover version or "pop song by numbers" stuff though, but they did very clearly evolve their sound and expertise very quickly.

I heard it earlier, and it should have been kept in the archives because it's absolutely shite.
Sometimes I wonder if people who write stuff like this actually believe it, or just want to go against the tide.

It's not amazing, but it's very inoffensive and there's nothing shit about it, any big beatles fan could show you some much worse songs from their heyday.
