New CL Format Thoughts | After GW2 (pg13) | GW3 (pg33)

That’s worrying. As we’re going to struggle to beat anyone away from home
Thought we could just beat Brugge at home and that would save us
Been saying this for weeks. All my pals were laughing at me worrying, but its come home to roost. Lets hope between now and Jan we get some reinforcements in, find some form, learn to defend and somehow grab a draw in Paris. Massive game that now!!

He's probably right. 2 would guarantee it i think.
Doubtful if we get beat in Paris. Arse and the bin dippers play 2 of our closest rivals next 2 game weeks. With them thru already they’ll throw the games. I would…

*edit, Stuttgart play Bratislava next, we could easily be out of the top 24 come the end of game week 7

Play the youngsters, get out of it. Be fucking embarassing to play some shitty two leg fixture in the new year to try and scrape into the next round.

Good news, we don't have a CL match til 22 (PSG A) and 29 (Brugge H) January.
Some time to get more players to some kind of fitness and confidence level.

3 more points would guarantee play offs:

Being behind celtic at this stage is comical. A woeful performance thus far that in all honesty deserves to see us eliminated. However, the new format in its desire to see as few upsets as possible has given us ample opportunity to scrape through.

Top 8 is now mathematically impossible to achieve. Realistically, beating psg would see us qualify, they wouldn't be able to catch us and only Stuttgart would have any chance, stuttgart have Bratislava next which you'd fancy them to win but interestingly their last game is against PSG. That's quite probably going to be a huge game that could see them battle one another for the last qualifying spot.

If we lost to PSG. A win against club brugge in the last game would likely still see us through on 11 points.

Looks like there will only be 4-5 teams going into the last set of fixtures with a spot to grab/lose. We will likely be one of them, club brugge might be another, they play juve next but a win there and they'll be qualified already so we could quite easily see the unusual scenario of us needing a win last game and club brugge fielding a weakened side with nothing to play for.

Also need to remember with so many teams having nothing but position at stake in the last game and widespread changes expected, there could be some weird results too.

Also worth noting that whilst we now don't play again until late January, any potential new signings we make in the new year won't be eligible to play the last 2 league games, we'll be stuck with whoever is fit from the current bunch.

Not too important, but we still can get to top 8 if we win twice, no? Only then.

We can get 14 points total yes, 8th already has 13, so whilst we can technically catch 8th, there's 14 other teams between us we'd also have to surpass too. They can't all lose.

I've not bothered to look at the fixtures, so there might be some odd permutation where every one of those 14 sides inbetween us plays a team below us or 7th or higher in their last 2 games and loses both which could see it being possible to get 8th but that's an extremely unlikely scenario so for all intents and purposes it's impossible.

Im just worried about getting 24th….

8th LOL

sick to think if we lose to PSG then Brugge can come to the Etihad and think that a draw earns them a playoff place while it eliminates us.

sister club Girona also shit.
