My Council Tax bill for Tameside arrived yesterday posted from Coventry, wtf, most of those lazy fuckers at Tameside don’t have enough to do anyway. Also in this day and age why are they posting when email costs nothing?

You can apply to receive it by email, however if there is more than one name on the bill you need their permission and they will also have to receive the email

How much not had mine yet?

According to that, if my house was in Tameside rather than Bolton (band A here), I’d be paying around an extra £1,500 a year, unless I’ve read that wrong.
Band A is around £1390, the valuations are based on the 1991 market. I’m having to pay for my Dad’s house which is empty around £180 per month, it lists all the services he receives for his money, he passed away last year so I don’t think the he’s too bothered about “education” and “policing”, I still have to pay full rate. Single person occupancy gets a 25% discount, zero discount for an empty house!

Ah I see thought it may be something like that, seems they’re using the up to date market value here then as that’s pretty much the same, although don’t get me started on what services you use and don’t use, who’d have thought a stolen black wheelie bin would cause so much hassle ;-).

Wow, that's rough, have you asked the council about an exemption in the circumstances? I'm fairly sure we managed to get council tax suspended on my mother's place, years back, when she had to move to a care home.

Cheers, my Dad passed away last July and I got 6 months exemption from Probate date. That’s well up now so it’s a waiting game whilst the house is sold which isn’t an easy process at the moment.

To anyone else going through this process it’s really stressful, my sister who works in Financial Services has been a rock, I couldn’t have coped on my own.

Take all the furniture out and start a full (nudge nudge) renovation project, that should get you an exemption
